Is this ZIP CHIP an 8MHz FAKE?

If you look at the screen of the 3rd picture in this listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/ZipChip-Apple-II-8-MHz-Zip-Chip-model-8000-/181834324686

You'll see on the top ZIPCHIP II-4 title. Does this mean that this is a relabeled 4MHz zip chip? I concluded so and asked the seller to cancel the transaction despite I won this auction.
He relisted the item and removed those screenshots...

georgel, I was watching that auction. I have sold three Zip 8000 chips and two 4000 myself. I have had the same diagnostic software and regardless of whether I had a 4000 or 8000 installed the same title came up.

Don't know what to tell you beyond that. I do not currently have an 8000 to test, only a 4000 so I can't say anything else other than
I've seen the same screen show up regardless of the chip installed. I assumed it was a "title" screen for the test page since I figured the odds of me getting
three Zip 8000s that were fake was pretty slim.

Don't know the seller but I'm inclined to say it is the version of the software he is using. None of the software I have (Zip Diagnostics) say 8 or 8000 on them while running the diagnostics. (although the later version of the diagnostics just say "Zip II" when you boot the disk)

I could show you pictures from my past auctions if you like.

Don't know if that helps but there it is.

Its hard to tell, but i would say its a real 8000.
My 8000 Model is a lot more flat than my 4000 Model
My ZIP Chip 8000 is about as thick as the ZIP Chip in the Auction.
I have bought my ZIP 8000 for $200 1 year ago.. so $240 does not seem too pricy.

Since i already have a ZIP8000, i will only watch how high this one goes Wink

Thank you for your advices. But there must be a way to detect by software the 4MHz and 8MHz versions?

It's a Zip 8000 - they came with the same software. The architecture is the same (aside from externalizing the cache), the frequency was the only obvious difference.
