Apple IIgs Ram Expansion

I have searched for this, with not much success. I was wondering what are my options for expanding the RAM on my Rom01 IIgs? I already have the 1mb RAM expansion plugged in the expansion slot. I notice that ProDOS 16 uses most of that memory. I would like to have a sizeable RAM drive, but I think the maximum I can have under ProDOS 16 is 384K, and that would eat up ALL of my memory. I am pretty sure the Apple IIe expansions that plug into the 7 expansions slots of the IIe won't work, as, I am assuming they are 8-bit, as opposed to the 16-bit IIgs.

CFFA3000 WOW!

I've had my CFFA3000 in my Apple IIgs for awhile now, and have played around with it a little. Tonight was the first night that I have had a chance to really mess with it, a lot. All I can say is WOW! This is a great piece of hardware. It is really versatile. I downloaded an HDV file that I had been using, but tonight, I created a blank 32mb disk image on my CF card, and installed a fresh copy of System 6.0.1 from disk images on my USB drive. I wish someone made something like this for an Amiga.

RAMWorks II Card

I was thinking of buying a RamWorks II card with 1mb of memory to go in my auxilary slot. My question is, will it work with my existing 1mb ram expansion that is in slot 5, giving me a total of 2mb of memory? I asked the guy selling the card, but he had never heard of a ram expansion that would work in anything other than the aux slot. Thanks in advance for the help.

Using standard drives with a Disk II card

Hi all,

Does a circuit exist for attaching a standard shugart / PC drive to an Apple 2 via a Disk II card ?

I have seen pictures on the net of one Teac drive that seemed to have a converter board with a couple of LS type chips to convert the 20 pin disk II signals to the standard 34 pin shugart signals. Does a schematic of this card exist, it looked relatively simple.

here : http://www.classic-computers.org.nz/blog/2009-03-23-teac-apple-disk-drive-repairs.htm[url]

Looking at the two interfaces, it seems that the main problem would be converting the Apple 4 wire stepping signals to the shugart step and direction signals.

Cheers.

Phill.

CFFA3000 firmware update

Was reading the forums on Rich Dreher's website and he mentioned that he's planning on releasing a firmware update by the end of the year that will allow for folders on the CFFA3000! That's great as far as I'm concerned. That will allow me to take either my 2GB or 4GB flash drive and load them up with Apple II disk images to run on my GS. Thanks Rich!

An Ebay Buyer's Tale of Woe and Sadness - Monitor and Keyboard problems

I recently purchased a complete Apple IIe system from Ebay that was described as 100% working by the seller.

I was really only looking for a new Apple III Monitor to use as a replacement for the one I own and suspected of failing, but I spotted an auction that included an Apple IIe, 2 Disk II drives, a fan/power unit, and a Monitor III so I bid on the auction and won the entire package for what I considered a fairly low price. About $370 with shipping. It's an exact replica of what I already own, so a great backup was had.

Apple IIe Mouse

I am wanting a mouse for my Apple IIe, and currently have one of the 670-0030 boards installed in the Apple. Will the A2M2070 mouse work with this board? I notice that there is a site for 'Apple Rescue of Denver' that has the A2M2070 mouse in stock, anyone ever buy from them? I just wonder if they are a reputable company. Are there any other mice that will work with the board that I have? Thanks.

Just Bought Another A//e

I was wondering about the motherboard, which I think is 607-0187-E. It looks to have 2 64Kx4 RAM chips instead of the 8 chips. I guess it is a later version than what I have now, which is 820-0087-A 1984 607-0187. I was just wondering what are the differences, other than the number of RAM chips? Would I be better off to using the one I just bought if everything is OK, and using my original with the older MB as a spare, or for parts? I couldn't pass this one up, it showed up on ebay for $49 with free shipping (I hate that 'buy it now' button).
