8-bit Dice - a cross platform retro fantasy

I've ported a simple dice game to a good number of 8-bit systems of the '70s/'80s, including the Apple II series (][, ][ Plus, //c and //e enhanced). The complete package can be downloaded from here.

Replacement composite video out cable for the //c

I need to replace the composite video cable that connects my Apple //c to its 9" monitor.

Can I use any plain composite video cable with RCA connectors, or are there special requirements?

Would a regular "yellow" modern cable work? Like this one: https://t.ly/M7Ot

Comms using SSC and external USR v.92 modem --Isn't working

It wasn't this difficult 40 years ago ... Logging in to bulletin boards, university mainframe, CompuServe(!) ....

Just resurrected my 1978 Apple II.  The Mountain Computer CPS card just didn't work any more so I got an Apple SuperSerial Card.

All working fine.  I get the "APPLE SSC: " prompt.  It responds to CTRL-A commands like  Echo.  Connected to an external USR V.92 Faxmodem.  When SSC engages, the modem indicates "Terminal Ready" (TR).

SSC Serial port control

Hello all,

I once saw a procedure to setup the Apple II to respond to DOS commands though the serial port.

For example, i have my Linux computer hooked up to my Apple II via a serial cable, I want to load/enter/save basic programs

on the Apple II, and have the respones come to my terminal on Linux over a serial cable.

I have done it with my CP/M card and SSC and it works great but I am not sure how to do it from plain Apple DOS 3.3

Thanks

Booting to DOS with AppleWin in Apple ][ original mode

In AppleWin, if I set up the emulator to Apple II original, I can boot to the monitor and then switch to Integer BASIC with CTRL/B+ENTER, but I can't find a reliable way to boot to DOS.

If I set up the virtual disk drive (1) with a DOS boot disk, and reboot the emulator, it still boots to the monitor, as it does if I double click the .do disk image.

The only way I found to boot to Apple II original mode with the DOS available is to switch to another machine (eg. Apple II+), reboot the emulator, then switch back to Apple II original and reboot once again.

M0401 Monitor

I am a radio guy with limited computer knowledge and No Apple knowledge.  I don't know if I'm in the right forum but looking for help!

I recently aqiured a Apple II Plus and a Apple IIc and have them working.  With them came a M0401 Monitor. It appears to me that this monitor is not comapatble with the II Plus or the IIc.  I would like to test it but how?

Random number generation on the Apple II with AppleSoft BASIC

Howdy.

I've studied this article which details a well known limitation with AppleSoft BASIC when it comes to generating a pseudo-random number sequence:

https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.3758/BF03202585.pdf

I've done some experiments, and there is one thing I still cannot figure out.

Try to do this: set the AppleWin emulator to Apple II+ mode, paste this program, RUN it and then save the emulator state (f11):

---

10 home:get k$:x=rnd(-1*(peek(78)+256*peek(79))):print x

No power on iie motherboard help (power supply does work)

 Hello,

I'm looking for info on how to go about troubleshooting this apple iie motherboard I'm working on that isn't powering up. The power supply works and confirmed in full working order. Motherboard isn't even getting the led lit up when power is on sadly. I was wondering if anyone here would have some pointers as to common problems causing this please? I do have a multimeter and can follow along with most suggestions anyone might have.
