Apple II

Auto-running a program from a floppy

My programming/use of the Apple II is getting rather rusty....

I'm in the process of eliminating some hardware issues (color missing) on my II+ motherboard and have copied (from some listing I found) and saved a small color bar type test program. Since my keyboard is disconnected when working on the computer it would be great to have it run automatically when a disk with it on would boot.

The program is in Applesoft basic, I've saved it on a DOS 3.3 disk (5.25") and my II+ has an autoboot ROM.

Cirtech Apple Iic CPM Module

Colleagues

Greetings from Dublin, Ireland.

Does anyone have experience using this add-on to an Apple IIc (it is one of the few add-on boards).  I am using it on the 'basic' IIc not the IIc plus.  It came with a computer I bought on eBay.  When I opened it to clean the internal drive I found the Cirtech card and with a little bit of research determined what is .

disk ii card and other questions

Hi everyone,

(Introduction - problem starts after 2nd paragraph if you would like to skip this)

I am new here and am working on repairing/restoring an old apple ii plus that was gifted to me as a kid for something to play with that didn't work. Amazingly, my childhood self managed to not break anything more or touch the ICs. I was in school for computer engineering, but have been away for a few years due to health problems. So while I have a break for a few weeks from doctors while they come up with a new plan, I decided to keep busy as much as I am able to.

I found this in my grandfathers closet

As the title says, found this while searching through some of my old grandfathers things. I don't know much about them myself though.

Troubleshooting a DuoDisk unit

I'm working through a problem with the second drive in my DuoDisk unit.  Specifically, it spins up, but the head doesn't read the disk.

This leads me to suspect two possible culprits:  the read head or the stepper motor.

Is there any troubleshooting tips?  Any way I can rule out the stepper motor at least?I take it back.  I didn't realize it, but the characteristic chatter when a disk drive starts is the stepper motor.  So presumably it's fine.  That leaves the read head...

https://www.applefritter.com/content/apple-iii-without-any-text

There is one problem left, the keyboard is not working properly , keys 1,Q,S,X,3,6 and 9 does not work. . All these keys are connected to Y1 in the keyboard. The separate key contacts are OK and the connection Y1 from the keyboard to pin 18 on the keyboard controller 341-0035 is OK. All other keys are OK.

Which Apple II programs are able to use more than 128k ram?

Is there a list of Apple II programs that take advantage of upgraded memory over the typical 128kb? With all the 1mb, 4mb, 8mb ram cards out there for hobbyists, I'm just wondering what these cards can do for running software. I know some use those cards as ram disks, but I'm strictly looking for answers about software.

Apple IIe PAL - Does not boot

Hello!

I have an Apple IIe model A2S2064. This has mainboard 820-0073-B, B607-0264-F.

This is the PAL version of the Apple IIe, and it's a UK model.

I removed the machine from storage, and on initial poweron, the PSU was ticking. I reseated the 80col expansion card, and the machine booted OK.

However, when I powered on the machine yesterday, the machine went immediately into the self diagnostics, and reported "KERNEL OK". Rebooting the machine with CTRL-APPLE-RESET starts the diagnostic again.

What is the lower-case modification?

I've always wondered what the lowercase/shiftkey modification is. Obviously it adds lowercase characters to the otherwise uppercase Apple II, but how does it relate to my II+ clone? Let me explain.

My clone keyboard (partly pictured below) has a lockable pushbutton switch with a red LED in place of the regular "Power" light. In normal 40 column mode nothing happens when you press it, but in 80-column mode (Videx Videoterm card) I get lowercase letters when it's pressed down, and to get uppercase you use the SHIFT key.
