Understanding the Apple II mass storage

I've been contemplating my options regarding hard drives for my Apple IIGS. There are quite a few alternatives available and the CFFA3000 and Focus IDE seem to be the most popular.

I currently have a Unisdisk Disk II/Smartport emulator in my IIGS and after having done a bit of research I've begun to wonder if that would be sufficient for me. There are a few things I'd like to get some clarification based on facts and experiences to help me make up my mind:

Using peripheral connector I/O SELECT or DEVICE SELECT

I am working on an FPGA-based peripheral card for Apple II (currently tested in a IIe). This board in its current state works as expected but I wanted to add some I/O control to turn on and off features, so I decided that the DEVICE SELECT signal was the best choice. However it seems like I cannot activate the DEVICE SELECT signal!

IIgs CPU selection

I have a IIgs ROM 01 that I would like to use, but it is missing a CPU. I found something that may be compatible at mouser. Any reason why this wouldn't work? Thanks!!

Eprom programmer driven by Apple II Gameport

Make this board and program your 2508 to 27128 eproms from the gameport controlled by simple Applesoft programm.
It´s rather simple, cheap and easy to build ! The pages contain the source programs and links to diskimage
with the program and a example disk containing several eprom updates for Epson FX, MX and RX printers.
Contains circuitplan and PCB layers ! It uses only standard ICs and transistors.

[Solved] Eeny, meeny, miny, moe... Slot suggestion?

I just acquired a Bank Street Laboratory interface card, with temp/sound/light sensor probes, a light and speaker, and software, but no manual.

I'm a little afraid to plug it in... Can anyone suggest which slot this might go in? Or if anyone has a manual they wouldn't mind sharing/copying? There are numbers on the back, JCE-3 94V-0 (or 94V-O). The software doesn't offer any help, it only says that it can't detect the card.
