Need some assistance on repairing some Disk II drives

I have 4 Disk II drives, but only one of them is working. I am convinced that one of the 4 is a clone, as it has a different analog board with no Apple part number on it and has asian characters on a label on the bottom. I am attempting to get at least one other working drive as I intend to sell one of my Apple II systems and want it to come with at least one good drive.

Mythical drive sizes?

I’ve seen Applied Engineering Vulcan drives in 20, 40, 60,80, & 100mb sizes

They also advertised 200mb drives but I’ve never seen any evidence that they existed though I’d love to see one

Applied Ingenuity Innerdrives were advertised at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 100mb. I’ve only seen 20 & 40mb drives. Likely 30 & 50mb exist but I wonder if 100mb actually did or if that was just advertising.

Apple II Rev.3: HGR not working

Hi all,

Long time reader but first time poster. I'm troubleshooting my Rev.3 (7850). After isolating Ram problems and swapping 1 or 2 LS, it now does boot and start disk II.

The main default comes from HGR command, which doesn't clear the screen (Hires1), so I suspected the $2000-$3FFF RAM area, but corresponding chips are tested good. After issuing HGR command,  the screen doesn't blank and shows partial white blocks. Otherwise, HGR2 works: Hires2 is cleared. Text (1&2) and GR work well.

Any hint appreciated ! Thanks.

Apple IIc 5.25" Floppy (ALPS) repair

Hi all, I posted this on the discord channel but Tom suggested to post it also here for reference so here it is (I added some pics for reference). I was having trouble with my IIc floppy, more specifically when writings as reading was working fine (I hadn't used it in a while). When attempting to save anything I would get random write protect or IO Error. Sometimes it would hint on starting to save (creating the file name for ex.) but shortly after give IO Error or simply a Write protect. So it was time to investigate.

Orange Micro Grappler+ Connection to Modern Printers

I'm in the process of resurrecting an Apple II+, and I have everything working including memory expansion and 80-column cards and two disk drives. All that's left is an Orange Micro Grappler+ card. I want to use it to connect to a modern printer that has a USB 2.0 connection. Does anyone know if this is possible and, if so, how to do it?

cc65/ProDOSi: Error #64 loading stub in Apple2Enh program

Hi!  I'm currently working on debugging my AdvSkel65 program.  Right now, there are two bad bugs with it: 1. most 128k ports seem to execute the wrong verb, and 2. the Apple2enh ports are having problems loading a low memory stub: I'm getting the monitor just after the stub was supposed to load.  Debugging code reveals gthat I'm getting error #64: Invalid Path.  When I look at the disk image with CiderPress, the path seems correct.  The path is "/PRODOS203/LOWMEM," and I attached the image.  I don't understand why I'm getting that.  :(  Any advice would be helpful.

Apple IIc A2M4050 5.25” drive issue LED

Hi all,

I did a basic google search and came up empty on this topic. My A2M4050 Drive LED light for reading and writing disks does not work. The drive itself DOES work in terms of reading and writing disks without issue. I'm not sure if it is just a bad LED or if there is an issue with the circuit itself.

At what temperature does an Apple III "overheat?"

I'm wondering: does anyone know what the approximate internal temperature of an Apple III would be during one of it's infamous "overheating" scenarios? It's widely accepted that early Apple III's would overheat after some period of usage, but I can't find any indication of just how hot they actually got inside.

If anyone has any knowlege or references on this topic, I'd be grateful!

Franklin Ace 1000 - Boots to garbage screen

I am working on a Franklin Ace 1000 Apple ii+ clone that I picked up recently. While I have successfully repaired several other systems, I have never owned or worked on an Apple or clone system previously. Before booting it, I installed a new power supply from ReActiveMicro which seems to be working perfectly although 5v is a bit low at 4.77v. The system boots to a "garbage" screen. It generally displays a similar pattern to the first screen shot below but often there are random characters (sometimes blinking) scattered across the screen. There is no beep on boot.

Problems with CFFA3000 v1.0 Rev C

Hello all,

I am having a problem I hope someone can help me with. I have a CFFA3000 v1.0 Rev C that I successfully installed in my Apple IIe Platinum back in 2018. I have recently wanted to get back into my retro Apple computing, and unfortunately, I can not get the card to boot, or even get into the menu.
