LCD/VGA Interface in the Apple II

Hi all,

im researching a shr VGA/LCD solution for the Apple //e and IIgs. Since the VOC has demonstrated the possibility of SHR in the Apple //e and as there is a Carte Blanch bitstream for SHR available, i have looked deeper into the matter. My results with the CarteBlanche are not as promising as i thought. A powerful display-solution needs more memory than the 2x128k Sram on the CarteBlanche. The other Problem is, that the CB is very rare (only 50 were ever produced).

I have found some nice LCD-Controller that feature 8-bit interfaces, and 6800/8080 compatibility (3.3V though).
SSD1963: 'intelligent' Framebuffer
RA8875: enhanced Graphics LCD Controller

Both Controllers allow up to 800x480px resolution and offer up to 16bit (RA8875) and 24bit (SSD1963) color.
The RA8875 has several Text-modes, supports Graphics-functions and allows DMA (and BitBLT) functions with an external Flash of up to 16mb.
The SSD1963 has a direct 24bit interface, that can be configured for use with a 8bit-bus. This Chip does not have any Graphics or Text-Functions but offers some Bitmap-modes.

EDIT: i have added the Appnote for the RA8875 as well as Info on the Proto-board im going to use for the CarteBlanche.

Repairing an Apple Keyboard II

I bought a partially working Apple Keyboard II (M0487). According to the seller the letter 'E' and the top row of the numeric keypad isn't working. Is it repairable and what needs to be done?

Thanks in advance!

4MegGS with less than 4 MB

Has anyone, who has the 4MegGS RAM expansion tried the expansion with other than 4 x MB SIMMs?

I know that you can get the 1 MB SIMMs for dirt cheap but I do have four 30 pin SIMMs home, of which I know for certain two are 256 kB and the rest I suspect to be 1 MB, totalling 2,5 Megs.

Apple I / II RF?

I just picked up a really fantastic Mitsubishi television manufactured August 1982. It only has the VHF/UHF connections. Is there any practical way to hook up a member of the Apple II family to this gem?

My Second Rev. 0 Apple II

Just got back from picking up an Apple II and could not be more thrilled. My first one (mine from childhood) went to a good home and helped me pay bills and continue my habit (Apple II and Compact Macs are my passion)

This one will do more of the same and will allow me to continue doing what I enjoy, paying a few bills and moving the joy onto the next owner.

Zip chip in Apple ///?

Here's a question: would a Zip Technologies Zip Chip work in an Apple ///?

I can't see any obvious reason it wouldn't. Presumably one could boot into the emulator to make any settings changes.

Well, maybe the Zip's expecting an Apple ][ architecture.

Hm. Didn't Apple do something similar for the Iic Plus? Wonder if that package would work in a ///?

Lots of Apple /// pictures

OK, just for you guys, here are the Apple /// photos. First, the whole collection of boxes I picked up from retired Apple engineer Jim Thomas:

Here's the /// peeking out into the world for the first time in 30 years (well, actually, not, but let's pretend):
