Audio/game sound effects -how were they made?

Ever since I got my first computer (yup, you know the one wink ) I've been fascinated and intrigued by all those cool game sound effects, despite not having a dedicated sound chip, but according to an article I recently came across ("Making the Apple II sing") it's essentially just a 1-bit square wave sound generator!

Green Monochrome A2M2010P monitor spot powerdown

My A2M2010P is showing a bright green spot on powerdown for a couple of seconds, so it seems that the brightness circuit is still powered after power off instead of quickly closing and blocking the electrons streaming from the still hot gun.

I am thinking to recap it (I checked things and they seem intact, but I need to test the ESR of the caps). Any thoughts if that may fix the issue, or is there a known issue with the spot-killer circuit in this model? I don't want to burn the phosphor in the center of the screen every time it powers down.

How to affordably play Doom?

I would like to run Doom on my Apple IIe. However, Doom floppies are upwards of $1000. Is there a legal and affordable way to play Doom?

AppleWin: screenshots?

On my Win11/64 laptop, at startup, AppleWin complains that it can't trap the PrintScreen key.  I believe it's because I have Greenshot installed on it.  I don't use it but may eventually find use for it. It doesn't do this on a Win7/64 laptop at my day program.  I tried the key there and didn't see anything.  I don't know if it did it silently or ignored the press.  I'd better check the game's folder, as it was on a flash drive.

Apple IIe (PAL) Power Supply Repair

Typically I tend to refurbish (read about the RIFA capacitors...) or getting new additional power supply to my various system, but since I just received my Apple IIe (PAL-version) 2 days ago I just wanted to quickly fire it up and test it and believe that after good 15-20 min I saw the smoke from the power supply and simply turned off the computer.Unmounted the power supply to check the pcb to find the RIFA capacitors and looking of the whole pcb by itself didn't really show any thing:

Apple ii Europplus - Expansion slot issue

Hi Folks,

I have recently aquired a trip back into my childhood and have a lovely Apple II Europlus with 9" B&W monitor and Disk II controller with drive.

Everything seems to work ok and as expected, until I plug any expansion card into any of the slots.  The Disk II controller can plug into any slot, and all works as expected.  However, if I plug my A2DVI card or a 16k memory expansion card (In to slot 0), then the computer just doesn't boot.  There is no beep, and the disk drive doesn't spin.  In addition the screen just displays all white squares.

SmartDiskII card

I built 5 of these over a year ago and then never really did anyything with them because I got sidetracked on other projects, which happens a lot.

Anyway, I was trying them with VIBR's disk emulator board using the latest v0.80.1 firmware and I have the board set to SmartPort mode, the image selected all connected to a regular Disk II controller.

But when I hook it to one of my SmartDiskII boards it doesn't appear to get any power.  It doesn't boot, if I try PR#5 (or whatever slot I have it in) , it says "NO DEVICE ATTACHED".

Applied Engineering power supply resources

Can anyone point me towards some resources to trouble-shoot what I believe is an Applied Engineering power supply? I've had a fair amount of success saving Apple-brand power supplies, but the AE model is a completely different animal in terms of components and complexity.  It's a black box, shorter than the Apple models, labeled Model PS-A, has a 120/240 external switch secured with a plastic tab and is rated +12V 3A, +5V 6A, -12V 1A and -5V 1A. It came with a lle which ran intermittently and then gave up the ghost. No obvious sign of component failure, no cloud of smoke and no stink.

Did anyone analyze the IWM related Apple IIc firmware ?

Hi -

I'm making some progress with my "IWMless" project but to proceed I'd need some hints about what the Apple IIc actually does with the IWM, other the "default" configuration it has on power up (basically, in this configuration, the IWM has much the same behaviour as the DISK II controller, but with a few subtle differences regarding disk write operations and the write protect sense).

But where I'm stuck right now is the yet open question which other configurations of the IWM does the Apple IIc use ?
