The new eMac...

After a LONG wait, I picked up my eMac today.

BIG surprise: I got a new model 1.25GHz one for $50 less! Biggrin I'm STOKED!

If apple make their cheapest model this good, iMac doesn't stand a chance. I mean... I've never even USED a Mac this quick before!

Just thought I'd share that with all of you.

I reckon that the eMac should

I reckon that the eMac should be the new iMac, because they look pretty much the same, where as the new iMac looks nothing like the old iMac, so this should be called the eMac. Do you follow? Beee

hmm

But... eMac suits this shape somehow. ...I don't know... Blum 3
If you ask me eMac is the new iMac anyway; just not by name. I bet most other people agree.

You like your Macintosh more than me, don't you, Dave? Dave? Can you hear me, Dave...?

imac is better

I think imac sounds more elegent than emac, and the imac looks it too. emac looks cool and all, just not as snazzy or cool. education seems cheezy, so it is the cheaper mac. I love my 17" imac!

Oh, Hazel, look. The field! It's covered in blood

With this speed bump/price dr

With this speed bump/price drop, I'm wondering why anyone would buy an iMac, given the price/performance value. Although the eMac has a CRT, I think it's a good looking CRT. Although it's got an LCD and takes up less space on a desk, it's hard for me to say that iMacs are worth an extra $500 or so. I have always bought used, but if I were to ever buy new the eMac would be the one.

i would expect the iMac will be the next one to be speed-bumped ....

and now for the disappointments...

Well there aren't many on this model... but the 2 most obvious issues with the design are based around the sound system.

1. More wattage than iMacs, less actual volume. Seriously. The 14 watt Pro Speakers in the iMac are seriously louder and sound a lot beefier. Even the OLD iMac's sound system is more impressive, in that it fills the whole room with sound; eMacs are only good from the front.

2. The CD door speaks. Any kind of loudness causes the CD door to vibrate nastily against the front case. While I'm working on a way to invisibly pad it(which will also eliminate the loud CHUNK when it closes), I doubt many people would ever get around to that; meaning watching movies with decent volume will be quite an unpleasant experience for most users.

Of course they're the ONLY problems I've picked up on so far- everything else about this model seems far nicer than the old ones, even the quality of joints in the case is improved. Biggrin
