This guy has got a set so big he cannot be able to sit down!

This guy has the guts to say he paid $250.00 for this CFFA 3 and only wants half of what he paid!

Maybe he lived out in Siberia where delivery charge was enormous... Biggrin
What of the recently listed $700 Zip-GSX? For that kind of money I sell mine...

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Good Evening All,

I am not a political person.
Though I spent 24 years in the Navy defending the rights of others to say, believe, and vote the way they want to and I am proud to have served.
Also...
Everybody is entitled to their political opinion.
Be it present day or a historical reference.
There should be no right or wrong when it comes to citing a historical political, or historical economic reference here if it concerns the state of our community.

I am hearing grumbles (here of all places) where there should not be any.
It prompts me to add my own historical reference...
"Can't we all just get along?"

I do not believe that anyone here has intentionaly brought up what is currently happening in American Politics.
What happened many moons ago, however, does have some bearing on the current economic situation.
Our community has enough problems coming from outside without creating our own from within.

With that; I hope that everything settles down and we can get on with the revolution. Smile

We'll be fighting in the street
with our children at our feet
and tomorrows to be worshipped will be gone.
And the men who spurred us on
sit in judgement of all wrong
they decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
make a vow to the new revolution
smile and grin at the changes all around
pick up my guitar and play
just like yesterday
then I'll get on my knees and pray

We don't get fooled again.

The Who Smile

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Well mike,
i guess you got the prize of this years award..... at the first moment my jaw clapped down, my mouth got dry and i just thought this must be the raction just before fainting away.... i just couldn´t believe it.... then i scrolled down...

oh my god... and this precious item somes just right away from Hong Kong ? tick, tick, tick... wasn´t there some press releases that uncovered that most of the chips that have been manipulated and that most of the faked chips came from somewhere down there in that area? it seems that times get rough in the art scene and that probably some of the guys try to enter the chip collectors scene ? if the price is right it probably is a good perspective to change the platform of activities, if the job gets to difficult in the art scene.... i heard that after in each collection at least several fakes are within and the art market might be a little "overcrowded" some sidesteppers might enter a new market... but surely my doubts are only result of an overwhelming paranoia.....

at least in the offer the statement is included that the chip is only collectors item ( and therefor might not be in working condition - what would be nearly the only possibility to check the authenticity of the chip... - isn´t that very usefull ... ? )

anyhow this offer is for sure the jackpot for the award of the golden covered headnail - made of lead....

LOL!
LOL!

Well...now I've seen just about everything.

I have one too.
Up on eBay (USA) there is a $5000.00 Apple IIc.
It has a PROTOTYPE sticker on it from Apple.
I admit, it is a bit different from the normal IIc, but I'm not sure if it's worth 5k.

Ho ho ho.

Actually the lesson to be learned is don't buy on eBay around Christmas-time, because that's when the cons and fraudsters and scammers come out to make their Christmas a bit merrier at your expense.

All,

I know. It's been a while since I posted anything under "Laughable", but you have GOT to see this to believe it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/130847869014?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

$2,500,000.00 for one piece of software!

I wrote this guy an e-mail the other day about one of his other auctions: FORTH Software for $24.95. I went looking through the Description and found that it was just the manual, not the software and manual.

So I wrote and suggested that he needed to amend his Title so that it was not Deceptive.

I kept a complete record of our conversation and this guy called me everything but a human being. Threatened to report me and my parents to eBay because of my "attitude", and that he knew all of the Major Apple II Buyers with "Deep Pockets" so he didn't care what I thought.

Hmmm. I thought that was interesting.

Another day on eBay. lol Smile

Hello Steven,
you should not mind... your a lucky guy.... if stupidness and greed would ever start to smell in Las Vegas ... well then you probably need a gasmask in New Jersey..... lol...... but just besides: the weird picture on the cover is the most sexy thing on that package... the software itself is a "very early attemt" to be compared to leisuresuit larry with very bad graphics ( like sprites on commodore 64 ) and the reason it´s really that rare, is caused by the worst graphics ever seen in a game and it was sold below the table because of the cover ( allthough it wouldt even attract grandpa´s mind )....
at least you found out something: if the guy want´s to talk to your parents ( lol ) that guy probably even isn´t adult.... so why waste time with another guys "well educated " breed ?

The cover of this particular piece of Software was mentioned in the book, "Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution" by Steven Levy, Pages 336 & 337 in the Paperback Edition..

All,

Yeah. After the third e-mail I stopped responding.
This guy (or Gal) is a joke.
If you look at any of the other items this person has up for auction, they are 95% frilly cowboy shirts and hats.
Not really an Apple person.
All I can say is that I hope his "Deep Pocket Apple II Customers" come to his rescue. Smile

I guess your both wrong.... probably one of the ladies from the Womens League of America from Alaska ( you remember that Lady from the Tea Party ) remembered about the ebay regulations and thought it might be something realy naughty ( and that´s the best joke of all ! ) - and shot it off the list as "violation to the ebay rules".... maybe she´s still anoyed that she was kicked of the voting list... Well - if you can´t laugh about outraging prices sometimes - then you can laugh about stupidness:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Apple-800k-M0131-External-SCSI-Drive-APPLE-Macintosh-/150995272410?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D560682

that results when stupid guys with frankly no knowledge at all about apple enter the market.....

it will turn out funny if market really starts selling 3,5 " drives as external SCSI.......

i guess, that will make every real SCSI to a HYPERDRIVE from startrek .....

There has been a lot of trash talk on this forum about ebay sellers.
Steven (gsmcten) openly admits on here several times that he harasses the ebay sellers about their auctions.
He does it under the ebay name ME252
If you are harassed by this guy or don't want to be, you can always add him to your ebay "blocked buyer" list.
M=Morgan
E2=petty officer
#52=he lives in a trailer park.

I was searching the applefritter site for information for Apple II, but I only found a lot of misinformation and a topic like this one.

AppleII6502,

That is me252: A World War II aircraft (that never existed) designation.
I decided on me252 so as not to confuse with ME262, the WWII German Fighter Jet.
Your analysis of my eBay ID is hilarious! LOL

You must work as an Analyst for one of the Big Three: NSA, CIA, FBI.
If so, your job is in danger. Smile

Yes, I started this topic almost two years ago.
It has been going from there.
Lots of folks within the community, who get tired of the "Sellers of eBay", asking prices no one can afford, and talking about computers they know nothing about, come here to vent. Myself included.

Do I harass sellers? No. When they make mistakes about Apple II Hardware and Software, I inform them of thier mistakes. If they try to say that an item they are selling is in "Mint Condition, Never Been opened or Used" and I can see that they are not telling the truth, I let them know about it.

Some sellers appreciate the help. Some don't.
Sounds like I may have said something about one of your auctions, or else you would't be saying what you are.

Apparently, you must not have liked what I said.

Oh Well...

If you could be a bit more specific about the "misinformation" that you found, it may be quite helpfull to those of us who contribute on a regular basis, unlike yourself, to fix and/or update said "misinformation". As for Topics... You are free to start one if you wish. Smile

Well Steven has allready replied by himself...

but just for the protocol: stupid attepts to disqualification are not welcome here at AF....
second beside: even a homeless living on the street may have very fundumantal knowledge about a topic on the apple II...
that person might have lived before in the 80´s in a bungalow and now been forced by outragious cost in healthcare to leave his house... you don´t know .... and i don´t know too.... but current residence does not disqualify somebody....

the only thing that disqualifies somebody, is if he is telling bullshit !
in that point you surely qualify....

and as Steven explained ... the me262 was the first world war II wardog with 2 jetengines.... probably you might at least see one as modell from revel plastic models.... i´ve built one in larger size few years ago and it has perfect flight behaviour....

but in one thing i surely agree with you..... some guys at ebay might lockout mail from other users... but that won´t prevent us from telling facts on offers in ebay that don´t tell truth or that give wrong information....

and at one point i surely disagree....
the statement "but I only found a lot of misinformation" is bullshit....
it happens of course that sometimes information is not perfect.... - but in most cases the problems of the users are solved...
and related to historical facts about apple you won´t find a platform with more reliable information - but a lot of sites with less reliable statements....

BUT (!) if you believe this platform to have such bad information... why are you still in here for more than one year ???
If i´m in a site that tells bullshit - i just leave it and won´t return.....
could it be - that your own behaviour is a little bit bigoted ?

Hello Jim_GS,
under normal circumstances i would agree, but if somebody starts raising insulting accusations ... then it´s better not to ignore ..... some guys are that stupid, that they might think this to be a sign of weakness and think they can just continue slamming.... is such cases it´s better to show up such guys the limits in the platform.....
otherwise you might take risk of expanding misbehaviour.....
but as i have shown above... this one has such bigotic behaviour that he disqualifies himself...

well there are 2 facts to recognize:
in the 80´s the zip-chip was nearly same expensive ( 1099 German Mark ) like the original Apple IIe => 1400 German Mark
- but at the other side while thousands of Apple IIe have been sold, only very few of the zip-chip have been sold....
in relation to today : there are hundreds of Apple IIe availiable .... but from the zip chip only very few have
survived till today.... the last i have seen at ebay was several years ago.... so put that together:
the former price was as high as a computer - but it is very much more rare than the computer, so it´s rather easy to buy 4 or 5 Apple IIe´s but it will be rather difficult to get hands on that chip.... that makes that chip valuable...

I don't remember the Zip Chip being that expensive, compared to the Apple ][e, but I bought one 8-10 months before they were actually available, so maybe I got an Early Bird price of $100.00 ( USD ).

Well I'll actually defend this seller "vintagecomputermuseum". He can be overpriced but only buys sells top quality stuff. I have never seen a basket case or cosmetically damaged item from him. If you make a reasonable offer he usually will accept it. I don't mean offer him $20 for an item he lists for $200. But I needed a pretty rare card from him. He wanted $300, I offered $200 and he was very cool and the card was perfect. Usually s100 cards have nicks on the component because they sit very close, this one looked fresh from the factory. Everything I have gotten from him is the same.

Some time ago there was a workaround to send a message to sellers, who do not accept messages - add the seller to your favorite seller list and contact the seller from there. I have not used this lately, but it may still work.

My guess on this one is that they are the original owner and can't understand why they can't get almost what they paid for it new since they kept it in good condition and now they dont make then anymore so they must be "rare". I hear that one all the time in my other non computer related hobbies. They just can't comprehend why when I tell a guy with 10,000 miles on a 10 year old Porsche he is only getting 20k for it when he paid 100k new and kept it in perfect condition.

@jgw1962, I bet it would sell for $500 if the bidding started around $100. People would get wrapped up and swept away.. Once you become a high-bidder early, you tend to start thinking you own the item already and "just can't lose it now". So that's how I think some bid wars start.

@gsmcten. I hate that vintage computer forum. I got ragged on for not answering in a timely fashion. And to that I just say go blow. In fact, it is commonly known that Apple II enthusiasts are stubborn, over-spoiled, stuck-in-their-old-school-ways, snobby and un-sharing, money-grubbing hoarders. I've heard that from so many people already. And even more complaints that they don't want to scan or share their printed material without charging fees.

I don't hear of this behavior in the C-64 or Atari-800 communities.

Keatah.

I hate that vintage computer forum. I got ragged on for not answering in a timely fashion.

Which one are you talking about?

Re: THIS is Laughable!

I think you may not be getting around, know or hang out with the right Apple II people. There's a ton of scanning going on, and nearly all the II users I personally know are humble, helpful sharing types.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

but from the zip chip only very few have survived till today.... the last i have seen at ebay was several years ago

The ZipChip sold for ~$100 USD, and as low as $89 for awhile in the USA. There are a couple of reasons why they're not very common.

1.) They came out relatively late in Apple's 8-bit product cycle. Had they came out in 84/85 we'd have a ton of them.

2.) Early batches were unreliable, and for awhile Zip Technology had a lousy reputation so sales were slow until consumer confidence improved.

3.) Many people who wanted an accelerator already had one (Transwarp, Titan etc).

4.) Most people didn't care... their Apple II was 'fast enough' for their needs.

ZipChips show up on eBay 2-3 times a year on average. The average sell is $125-$250 depending on how close the auctions are, if the seller lists as a BIN or let's it ride, etc.

ZipChips have a few versions to watch for - internal cache (prone to early failure) and the external cache version, which is more robust. If you turn the ZipChip upside down, and see chips, it's the external cache version, and is more tolerant to heat. If you have an internal cache ZipChip, keep it as cool as possible to lengthen it's lifespan. Still, any ZipChip survivor today is big deal.

I only use them in Apple //c 4000/4100 machines. I prefer slot-based accelerators (Transwarp, Transwarp II) in my II+ and IIe machines.

A new addition to the list:

Look at the pictures, then check out the description.

The asking price is insanity. Smile
