Apple ii plus secured joystick cable

Hi, just wanted to share an idea I did for a recently resurrected Apple ii plus joystick cable.

The cable I bought online that runs from the motherboard 16 pin IC socket to a DB9 out the back wasn't secured in any way. I was a bit worried about holding something in my hand that is mechanically connected to the motherboard without any strain relief. I looked at some options online but opted to make one instead.

So I purchased a 16 pin socket ribbon cable connector, ribbon cable, strain relief, and a db9 connector.

I also designed a clip for the back case:

Here's what it looked like printed:

And installed:

Now if I get over zealous on choplifter, I won't damage the board or adapter :)

Very cool!

Thanks for sharing.  Are you going to post the 3D print files?

Looks a lot like the metal

Looks a lot like the metal ones that were common back in the day.  But I think the non-concuctive plastic is probably better.

3D file in STL format

File is attached - but pay close attention to your slicer. Mine was trying to fill the screw holes for some reason. I can muck with it some more if you have that problem.

Pay attention if you have an RFI machine

If you have an RFI machine with metal surround, incease the overall thickness.  It's too slim as it is to fit.

Thanks for this!
