Need help creating bootable CP/M disk for Applicard

First, the Applicard is new to me.  Second, making bootable CP/M disks is a distant memory.  I'm trying to dust off brain cells that haven't been accessed in 30+ years.

I download the two CP/M disk images (PCPI ProDOS Disk 1.po and PCPI ProDOS Disk 2.po), copied them using CiderPress to my ReActiveMicro CF card on my Windows PC, booted  the Apple IIe with the ReActiveMicro CF card, and used DiskMsker 8 (I'm not very familiar with Diskmaker 8) to create the two system disks. I removed the ReActiveMicro card, installed the Applicard in slot 4, and tried to boot from the first system disk, and I get "UNABLE TO LOAD PRODOS" error message. The disk1 image has the following files on it:

ZPATCH-1.BIN

ZPATCH-2.BIN

PATCHER.SYS

PCPIBOOT.SYS

FBOOT1.SYS

LIB.BIN

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I have no idea what it could be.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

After breaking my monitor trying to get something to work.

So my expiance ended with breaking my monochrome monitor. But what I leaned. Most CPM for apple II do not support hard drives. I did find 2 versions that did support hard drives or well close enough. This is what I got stuck on. Since I have an apple II plus with a booticard. I can't do a smart port boot without a rom card to support it. Wish I would have found out sooner. But even if I did get it to boot. I was trying to emulate not a hard drive but a 800k floppy via a smart port enabled (one version was smart port or a very specific hard drive).  Anyway what you should try to find out is how far does that card goes.  At this point. I'm down to two more items on my list. Apple IIe platinum and a sd card floppy. The later just to boot cpm images.  The only reason I wanted to do a large image was I found cpm 3.0 in like 6 disk set. I wanted to put it on all one disk or a hard drive image. I got far enough to read the booti card image but not boot from it. AKA I got the same error. No prodos. Don't know if that helps.

Thanks,

Josh

Need help creating bootable CP/M disk for Applicard

Thank you for your reply. Perhaps I should have been clearer that I am trying to create a bootable 5.25 floppy disk to boot CP/M from. I do not want to try to boot CP/M from the ReActiveMicro CF card. I only use the CF card to copy disk images. That's why I removed it when I tried to boot. I was only using it to copy files to a hopefully bootable CP/M floppy. I've got more research to do apparently. But tonight, my eyes are done from all the wilfire smoke and ash here in California. I'll try again tomorrow.

Thanks again!

I have boot disketes for the SoftCard and for the Franklin. Is there anything special about the AppliCard that requires a different version?

Booting cpm disks.

I don't know about the Applicard verison. But I think that can boot any apple CPM. All I did for my card was just find apple cpm images and used adtpro to push them out to the disks. Booted just fine. I never created a boot disk from scracth though. Just blank ones and other utils. (Like cpmtools.) A collection of command tools to make blank apple ii cpm images and my fav. move files back and forth. Since for some ciderpress is only cpm read only.

Thanks,

Josh

From what I've read, the

From what I've read, the software for the Applicard is specific, and other versions (Softcard, etc.) are not compatible. But that won't stop me from trying them just the same. I did download those disk images.

Yes you are correct.

The applicard from my understanding will do both Applicard special cpm and I think normal cpm. But if you try the applicard cpm on a basic cpm card. it will not work. If I remember correctly. When I tried to boot it with my Applied Engineering z80 plus card. It said it required a applicard. Find the wordstar cpm disk for apple dsk image. Try that.

Thanks,

Josh

You can't boot this disk image. The whole process of running a PCPI Applicard CP/M as a ProDOS application is described in the readme file of the archive containing 2 disk images.

Need help creating bootable CP/M disk for Applicard

I've been working with a gentlemen that has a CFFA card, and a 32MB .PO image that he created for the Applecard. I've been stuck in trying to get the .PO image to my ReActiveMicro CF card. So I broke down and purchased the cable for use with ADTpro. When the cable arrives, I'll move it that way (hopefully). If not, I can go through his entire process for creating the image for my CF card.

As an aside, does anyone know why CiderPress and AppleWin will not recognize certain .PO image files that contian CP/M files meant for use on an Apple IIe? I'm not trying to boot from them, I would just like to copy the contents to a CF card on my Windows PC.  Some of the .PO files for the Applicard are recognized, while others are not.

gotti, sorry to hear about

gotti, sorry to hear about your woes. If it makes anything easier you can download Prodos and CP/M through asciiexpress.net onto 5.25 disks.

I downloaded Prodos 2.4.2 onto a 5.25 disk, the copy also did a format as well, works like a champ! Just use your old iphone and //e cassette port.

Cheers!

Great suggestion!!!

Gary,  Thank you very much for that suggestion! I used my iPhone 8 (best to have it on airplane mode to prevent any notifications from coming through), a 3.5mm male/male cable (and my lightning to headphone cable for iPhone), and made an AppliCard boot floppy, and a copy of GBASIC on floppy as well.

THANKS AGAIN!

Joe

Awesome Joe glad it worked!

Awesome Joe glad it worked! Hard to believe these old school ports have modern day uses today, feels like my //e is connected to the world more than just the floppy.

Cheers!

Gary
