I'm upgrading a G4 Ti PowerBook 867. I need to install more RAM. The call out is for SDRAM PC1333U-333, 144-pin. I've been told that in the past that not all RAM is created equal, and that some of these units were and some were not compatible with MacIntoshes. Is there any guidance on the web on this matter (haven't found it). I couldn't find anything on the 'Fritter about it.

Yes, but in most cases ECC is used for server memory. I can't say I've ever seen an ECC SODIMM.
The TiBooks are of the vintage where almost all standard PC RAM will work, no need to source "Mac certified" RAM (at inflated prices, no less). Standard PC133 SODIMMs are all that machine needs.

When I Google the PC1333U-333, 144-pin RAM, I don't find any listed with 144 Pins.
I find a lot of 184 and 200 Pin RAM, but not the 144's.
Is this a normal DIMM?

PC1333U-333 The U means Unbuffered, which is not ECC
What were you looking to upgrade it to? I've got a lot of 256MB and I know I have a few 512MB here, but I'd have to figure out where I put them. If that'd be helpful I can try to find it and test that.
I believe the main difference is high and low density memory (I think only low density works) Could be way off on that though, but might give you something to help in your search?
A lot of people say they have all kinds of trouble with compatibility in Macs, but I don't usually run into problems, most PC RAM works just fine in a Mac as far as I can tell. I come across PCs that are picky as well, I think it's just a way to mark up the price saying it's Mac Compatible...
I have an 867 here and some ram. I put the following ram in and it booted without error, which isn't very helpful in figuring out what doesn't work...

Those are all 256MB. They were mostly pulled from Dells if I remember correctly, so they are not Mac Specific. If you want some of that, send me a message, it's just sitting around.
Thanks for the good responses. I'm looking to get 2 x 512MB. Currently you can get those shipped for $18 (on fleabay). If someone wants to sell a set of tested RAMs for $20, that'd be fine. The old Mac specific hardware vendors are trying to get old premium prices that seem unsupportable. I'm also getting an ATA 120GB 2.5 hard drive. Got one to sell for cheap?
BTW I might as well fess up. I scored this unit at an electronics thrift store for $30. Everything works except that they pulled the HD. They destroy every HD. They are paranoid about the liability of stolen data. The store is associated with a university that set this policy. Apparently there was an incident with a similar setup at a different university.
I dug through some more, and found one stick of 512, and it does work in the 867 Ti PowerBook I've got here

Not sure if that's helpful, I wish I had something that was a bit more common. I didn't find any of this specific model on ebay. My guess is if the RAM says 32x8 (low density) you'd be pretty safe, in my testing I've not found any PC133 that doesn't work.
