IIGS Speech Synthesizer

Does anyone know any specifics about the native IIGS speech synthesizer chip on the motherboard? I have two programs, Kidtalk and Smoothtalker that take advantage of this chip which basically work just like text-to-speech on macOS.

Specifically, I'd like to know where on the board it is as I suspect it may be faulty.

CP/M on Apple IIe

Does anyone here do anything with CP/M on a IIe anymore?I picked up the GGlabs card, and have it running. The floppyEMU works in dual 5.25 mode (only revC of floppyEMU supports dual 5.25 mode).

The only "good" disk images I have are the from the PCPI Applicard. There's really not a lot here other than the OS, drivers, and thankfully a utility to copy between DOS and CP/M volumes.

I'm curious if anyone has any other disk images that might work already.

DOS 3.2

I just finished ironing the bugs out of my Rev0 project and I’d like to get a copy of DOS 3.2. I’m running 3.3 but I’d just like to get a copy of 3.2.  All the images I’ve found are in a .d13 extension. I’m presuming this is 13 sector. Does anyone know where or even if I can find a dsk image of 3.2 that I can write with adtpro in a 16 sector drive? I haven’t tried but I don’t believe adtpro supports .d13 extensions.

Thanks group

Issues Connecting to BBS using Apple II and Acoustic Coupler

Hi Everyone, I am quite a young vintage computer collector and never got to experience the era of BBS.  Upon looking through the internet I found that there are a few BBS's left that can be dialled into with an acoustic coupler.Description of problem

FloppyEmu DuoDisk Adapter

So, I have a FloppyEmu. Some may remember: the one with the 3D-printed Disk II enclosure... :) Using the FloppyEmu is great - so convenient. But, I don't know about you: some days, even with the "noisy disk" adapter I just miss the original flair of using real disks. Anyone else occasionally needs the original "Brrrrt!" and spinning disk sounds, wants to flip disks - and enjoy the nice "Klonk!" when opening the drives? :)

Having trouble inserting disks in dual disk drive

I managed to clean up and repair an Apple IIe bought from a local owner. The progress of that is here:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG3aeorKmd7ajZHmgkbCI0g-k7w1ObaUc

I'm stuck with the dual disk drive not letting me insert some disks. This started after I removed the disk mechanisms from the case for retrobrighting, and it seems disks get stuck right in the middle on the leading edge.

I'm prepared to send this drive to an expert, but are there obvious things I should look for?

The drives themselves appear to read and write disks fine otherwise.

Interchangeablility of 74LS and 74HCT logic

A quick question.  Back in the day when 74LS was the primary logic family used for microcomputers, the output of 74 bipolar TTL logic typically sinks current much more than it sources (for example can sink 2-3 mA whereas it might only be able to source 0.5 mA).  It seems that a lot of manufacturers are using HCT thresholded logic for many inputs as these are compatible with 3.3 and 5 volt logic thresholds for input and output, where the typical low threshold is 0.8 V and high threshold is 2.0 V.  This is similar to NMOS, however, as far as I know there are no more NMOS process chips made.

Floppy card and Saturn 128K Clone Available

Hi All:

I hope everyone is doing well and happy summer to our Northern Hemisphere friends.

I am continuing to clean out extra items in my collection.  I have two cards avaiable for trade or sale.

1) A non-Apple branded floppy controller card : Untested

2) A Satrun 128k clone : NO CHIPS, Untested.

I would love to find an Apple II+ keyboard encoder to trade these for.

As for $$ DM me with an offer.  I have no specific amount in mind.

Cheers,

mark

Stereo Speech for Mockingboard and Phasor Sound Cards

In an article written by Steve Ciarcia entitled "Build a Third-Generation Phonetic Speech Synthesizer" (BYTE, March 1984, Vol. 9, No. 3), he mentions stereo speech for a Mockingboard equipped with 2 SSI-263 ICs. However, this feature appears to have been a curiosity for engineers and advanced hobbyists. Does anyone know of Apple II applications which utilized stereo speech? I am especially interested in hearing from former Sweet Micro Systems and/or Applied Engineering--for the Phasor--employees!
