Self-Test failure for 80 column card - which chip to replace?

Hey all,

My shiny new (38-year old) Apple //e has a faulty 80-column card. The self-test shows

RAM* 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0

...indicating that one of the RAM chips is bad. The question is...which one? My desoldering skills are basic at best and I'd like to avoid removing more chips than necessary. Here's a picture of the board:

Apple II Europlus : no boot, screen pattern garbage

Hello everyone

I've solved my first problem on this Apple II Europlus i'm trying to repair ; it used to have a 14Mhz clock (!)

Changing a 74S in the clock generatin made it 1Mhz again, it tok a while to figure to right one as this was not the most obvious one (linked to phase 0) but another one, the 4 bit counter.

NOw I have some (pal) video output ; garbage. :(  I've read all topics on this forum about this kind of issue before posting :) Some points to broken links, which does not help.

Slow spindle on drive II

all,

Hope I can get some help from the group.

I am debugging a Drive ][ I have where the spindle appears to the running at about half speed.

I haver verified that

               the belt is not slipping

the spindle (big flywheel) spins freely withe belt removed

the motor spins freely when not powered

Adjusting VR1 (to both end points) changes the speed, but never lets me the speed correct (not even close)

Vulcan board with Hard drive

Hey all,

I have a vulcan HD controller board, but the harddrive / power supply / fan thingie has been lost to time.

Is there anything that can be done with this board?

If not, I would be willing to swap for other interesting Apple II / Apple I things.

Apple //e boot up screen

All,

This is kind of a silly question but it has been bothering me.

I have two apple //e 's   (badged and verified the motherboards), but one boots up with  the expected banner     Apple //e but then the other one boots with    Apple ][

Both work like IIe's lower case, applesoft in from, etc.

Anybody able to tell me what is causing the difference?

Yet another FloppyEmu enclosure: 3D printing approach

Sorry for creating another "Custom FloppyEmu Enclosure" thread. I didn't want to hijack the original thread. If you're looking for Dave's original thread on his perfectly original Disk II enclosure conversion, look here.

I did use his wonderful idea, but followed a slightly different approach. This going to be a lengthy posting – I hope you don’t mind. I’ll split it into several posts, so you can skip along…

Apple IIgs Desktop Color

Got my IIgs all tricked out with 3½ and 5¼ floppies, two 20-MB partitions on a CMS SCSI Drive; everything works great.  Finished it off with an A2M6014 RGB Monitor.  Sharp!  No color fringes!  Only problem is... No matter what I set the desktop color in the Control Panel, the desktop is gray.  The DOS screens will be the designated desktop color, but the Desktop.Sys16 is always gray.  Even if I select "Standard" (medium blue/medium blue) in Control Panel, desktop is gray; DOS screens are medium blue, but desktop is gray.

I have a couple keyboard-related questions about my Apple IIe

I'm deep into a restoration of a really nice Apple IIe. The machine came to me in semi-rough state, with a failed power supply, lots of dirt and grime, and just generally suffering from decades of neglect. Last week I recapped the PSU (my first-ever recap job!), which seems to have immediately resolved various functional / stability problems I was seeing with the machine, so that feels great.
