Diskette questions

1. I've just filled my second to last blank diskette! All my disks are double-sided, and I'm wondering if the Disk II uses both sides, or if I can safely cut a notch and format the back side to use it? (I used to do this with Commodore disks all the time.)

2. Is there a good source to order disks from? Amazon and eBay seem incredibly overpriced, or perhaps I'm just out of the loop...

AE RAMFactor Schematic

I had a RAM|Charger, but IDK where I stowed it, or if it was stoleen. Do any of you have a schematic for the RAMCharger? I need the pinouts, at least, so that \i can build a replica.

Video: Apple IIe PAL Color Deep Dive and Repair

Should be particularly interesting to those of you in Europe, or if you want to know how they managed to get color on PAL systems from a computer that relied on NTSC interference to create color :-)

5.25" Drives for PC Transporter + KB Adapter Details?

As i recall, the PC Transporter required weird, proprietary AE drives, but it has an MFM connector on it. Is it possible to use normal MFM drives on the thing? Also, is there a schematic for the 5.25" AE drives so that i can build them?

I could also use a schematic for the //e KB adapter. I had a PC Transporter in a standard //gs, but I am considering putting one in my //e->//gs system, as an aux way to use soe old DOS stuff. (Essentially, to save some space on my racks.)

ZIP-II 4 Vs. Transwarp //e (Mk1) -- Pros and Cons?

I own both a ZIP-II (4Mhz) chip, and an Applied Engineering (original) Transwarp //e (also 4MHz).

I have always considered the ZIP Chip to be the better product, as it uses no slot. Wht pros and cons can you all list between these two that would dissuade me of this?

These are in two, separate systems, and I haven't done critical benchmarks, but I expect the ZIP-II to be slightly faster by design, howeer, I do not know if the original Transwarp can be overclocked.

Apple /// stopped working

Major bummer!

My Apple /// isn't working properly as of today :-( It has been sitting idle for a couple of months now (since I last used it).

I've tried booting a couple of diskettes but the only one that worked (so far) was the Confidence Program (other diskettes loads some tracks and the freeze/hangs).

AppleTel Software

I am interested in trying to find out as much as I can about the Apple II siftware called AplleTel. This package was used to access videotex/viewdata services back in the 1980s. There was also a viewdata editing system with special keyboard and graphics card.I currently maintain the TELSTAR videotex service here in the UK (https://glasstty.com) and am hoping to archive as much videotex software as I can find.If anyone is able to help, I would be most grateful.

Lower Case Chip For Applwritter causes apple symbol when space bar pressed.

So I have been enjoying my apple II plus with a lower case rom chip and a AE 80 column card.

When I tried Applewriter II it freaked out. So I removed the AE card and problem solved.

Applewritter II but when I type on the keyboard. Using the space or I think the tildy key. It display an closed apple logo from back in the day.  So I know it is something with the lower case chip.

Apple Digital RGB Monitorw: Phosphour Question

I was finally able to power on and test my Digital Apple RGB Monitor //.

I used these years ago, and I could swer that shen put into monochrome mode, the phosphour colour was teal-blue. This one is very much green. It also has a colour issue in RGB mode, which may be related, where white is orange-y.

My first question: Do any of you recall these being teal monochrome; and were there different phosphour modes on them in monochrome mode?

VTech UDC Card

I found a VTech UDC card today in some equipment that a mate swapped with me.

Can anyone with experience with this card verify that the SONY 51W drives work with it, and does anyone have a pinout for using Chinon drives? The VTech manual states that it support CHinon, but not what model numbers. I have a few Chinon mechs, including some high densitey mechs, in the spares.

It also states something about smart port HDDs, but IDK which drives it allows. Does it work with the Apple HD20?
