Identifying an Apple IIe

Hello everyone,

I am new here, so first let me introduce myself quickly: I'm Thomas, 34yo, living in the south of France. I have recently acquired an Apple IIe, after giving away my father's one to a museum 15 years ago... something that I deeply regret today!

Mouse card and MicroDrive/Turbo

I've had this Apple II mouse card on the shelf for a while and today I decided to install it in my IIe.

The IIe has a MicroDrive/Turbo mass storage device.  Highly recomended, byt the way.

When the Mouse card was installed in slot 4 (it's usually intended slot) the computer booted up to the Applesoft prompt, as if there were no drive connected.

Repeating this with the mouse card in slot 1 yielded the same result.

Has anyone run a Mouse Card with a MicroDrive/Turbo?

Disk emulator

Would it be dificult to emulate a disk image in software on a Teensy/Arduino which held a disk image in .DSK format contained in a C array?

The Teensy/Arduino woould responded in the same way as the Apple II disk controller card and "access" the emulated diskette just by indexing into this array.

The disk .DSK image could be downloaded via the JTAG-UART or simply compiled into the C code.

I'm guessing it would just take a small amount of code in the Arduino/Teensy to translate the BIOS firmware disk accesses into reads and writes indexed into the array.

Vitesse Quickie scanner

I finally received a hand scanner to match with my Vitesse quickie apple II card. The problem is I cant find software to make it run on he Apple IIe, only the IIgs.

Can a bad monitor damage a PSU?

Sorry for the long story, but... I picked up a IIe from a thrift store a couple of weeks ago. Looks like it's from 1985. I got it home, hooked it up to a small portable B&W TV that had a composite input, and it seemed to work fine. I got the "beep", ran/passed the diagnostic test, switched to ROM BASIC and ran a few short programs. No disks to test the drives yet.

@jeffpiep is successfully sending #FujiNet control commands over the #Apple2 SmartPort, and is now filling in the bits and pieces to get CONFIG working! Seen here is the Show Adapter Config screen.

Apple ][ (or ][ Plus)?

I recently got this board off of eBay and was wondering if it is what I think it is (i.e. an Apple ][ board and not a ][ Plus)?  I think it is...  At least it looks like one, but the date codes are from 79.  The info I found on when the ][ was canceled is contradictory.  Some say 79 while others say 78?  It did have a full set of AppleSoft ROMs when I got it, but I switched them with Integer ROMs since I already have two other working ][ Pluses (kept the Auto Start though).   The thing that is throwing me is that the memory select blocks are soldered in (but it does have them).

Powering up an old computer

I apologize for the question, but I have many doubts regarding some answers found on the web.In the past I powered an old Apple IIe, which had been at a stand still for several years, obtaining the "cooking" of the infamous RIFA 0.47 uF power supply capacitor; the problem was solved by replacing the capacitor. Now I have to revitalize another computer, my question is this:Does it make sense to use a variac to progressively power the computer?Would I have saved the original capacitor with this procedure? If so, what is the feeding progression to use? With w

IIc video port to composite adapter?

Has anyone made this adapter?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/193393714278

Apparently it merely pulls the NTSC composite signal from the video port (as well as the audio signal from the same port)... is that it??

https://devonhubner.org/AppleIIc_Video_Port_Breakout/

Word is that the output quality is noticeably improved over the regular composite... why would that be?

So many questions...
