Apple II

Any info about Platinum //e mobo revisions? And sockets too.

I was looking around the net for info that explains the differences in the revisions of the Platinum //e motherboards.

I have 4 of them right now, revisions, D,E, and F. And I'm wondering what the differences are. Visually, some of the minor parts like resistors and capacitors are different colors or slightly different shapes. But that could be simply because of suppliers and what was available for production.

The rev letter is stamped right above slot 5.

My original old //e died..

My ancient Apple //e from 1982 has now died. I went to turn it on and got some random garbage onscreen. I got strange text at the top in place of the "Apple //e", and about 15 or so random characters across the screen here and there.

It responds to the keyboard, and resets, and lets me type something in (displays normal characters here). And sometimes accepts the commands, and sometimes not. Stuff like HGR and HGR2 and TEXT work, but don't return the command prompt ]. Dropping it on the floor and reseating chips hasn't helped, neither has putting it in the oven & freezer.

Time is Money now working in Virtual ][

The home finance program Time is Money will now work in Virtual ][ starting with version 6.4, which was just newly released.

Thanks to Gerard Putter, this version has a new feature added to the Media menu (Set Disk Properties) which allows the change of the disk file Volume Number from its 254 default (and also you can make disk files Write Protected, which is VERY helpful).

In the case of Time is Money, changing the Volume number to 106 now renders them fully usable in Virtual ][.

non-working Apple //c (Unidisk ROMs) with Applied Engineering Z-RAM board

When my original Apple //c died, I was lucky to find a complete package for sale on eBay from a quality collector restorer: Apple //c, with AE Z-Ram board installed, Apple Color Monitor, which I always coveted, and the Apple Monitor stand.

I am thinking about putting the non-function one up on eBay, as it has three points for a good sale:

1. If someone has more patience that I, they can probably clean the motherboard, reseat the chips and get it working again. Currently it lights up but will not access the internal 5.25" disk drive or the external Unidisk 3.5".

Looking for the 342-0372-A Keyboard ROM Image (Enhanced German Apple IIe)

Hallo old Apple friends,

i did an upgrade from my German Apple IIe to the Enhanced Apple IIe by changing the CPU to a 65C02, the CD and EF ROMs to EPROMS (342-0304-A and 342-0303-A) and the Video ROM. The Video ROM image is from the reactivemicro site and i think the number is 342-075. Works fine, but some keys are now in the wrong position on my keyboard. Some research told me, that i need also a new Keyboard ROM (342-0372-A) for the USA/German Enhanced Apple IIe.
