Incomplete joystick range for Y axis

I just picked up a new vintage (1983-ish) apple IIe branded joystick.  The joystick seems to work well, but I'm only getting partial range for the Y axis.

The X axis is good-- I can adjust the center to a value of 127, and pushing the joystick full LEFT goes to 0, and full RIGHT goes to 255.

Alternate ROM image for TJBoldt ProDOS Rom Drive (ProDOS 2.4.2 + utils)

I've put together an image which I am still working on, primarily for my II Plus, which contains some useful tools. Right now the starting point is the ProDOS 2.4.2 disk from John Brooks' website:https://prodos8.com/releases/prodos-242/

Combined into the Blank drive with firmware file provided in TJ's repo (https://github.com/tjboldt/ProDOS-ROM-Drive) I pieced it together using the instructions for Bitsy Bye (again, from John Brooks' website).

ProDOS STARTUP menu - trying to work out how this code works

I'm busy teaching myself all about the Apple II and starting off with  a ProDOS ROM image written by Terence Boldt

Looking at the STARTUP code in CiderPress, it uses Applesoft to print a menu and then loads a game depending on which key you press.

I've worked out most of the simple basic commands but what is stumping me is how is the game actually loaded.

I would think there should be something like LOAD game?

The code reads the key pressed and sets a variable GAME = 0 to 26 (Depending on which key is pressed) Then the below routing is run.

Weird 5.25 Apple Drive issue

Hi

strange issue with a Apple 5.25 drive.

Testing on Apple-Cilian the drive passes all tests including read / write / format and disk speed calibration.

As the 2nd drive I can perform all functions.   However as a boot drive it will not cycle through a normal boot and boot up a disk.

I've used 2 different Apple computers, I've used two different controller cards.   Still this drive is acting up.  When I replace with a different drive that drove acts as it should

any idea on what I should check next?

Weird No-Slot-Clock issues

Several years ago I bought a number of Dallas DS1216E modules from AliExpress.

The DS1216E is functionally identical to the SMT No-Slot-Clock.

After a bit of surgery to grind out the epoxy underneath it and disconnect the internal (dead) button cells, I connected some modern CR2032 cells to each of the chips via some leads and a coin cell holder.

I had four working No-Slot-Clocks as a result in 4 different machines.  One of them runs 24-7 hosting a BBS.

The other three were in machines storage with the power cells disconnected.

Disk II Floppy Drive Missing RF Shield

Hi All,

I recenty got a three Apple Disk II 5.25 drives (AM2M0003).  I noticed that one drive has an RF shield inside and the other two drives have the RF shield missing.  I'm wondering if it's missing because someone took it out and forgot to put it back in, or was this something that was added/removed as some point in production at the factory.

The one with the shield intact has never had it's internal screws removed, while the other two with the missing shield show signs of screws being removed for servicing.  So my hunch is that someone took the shields out perhaps?

Apple 3.5 Drive issues

I have an Apple 3.5 drive on a IIgs that does not eject by dragging to the trash or by pushing the eject button. When dragging to trash, the drives spins and stops/spins stops and spons and stops... eventually hte icon goes to the trash, but the drive keeps up with the spin/stop. Id I push the ecect button, nothing happens.

Any hints on what may be wrong and how to fix?

Any and all help appreciated.
