ok, i'm working on an old (PI 233) system for my dad. he doesnt need something too powerful, so long as it works. well, I ran into alot of problems with this machine. firs it wouldnt boot. fixed. then, the 3.5 and 5.25" floppy I added wernt working together. fixed. now I have come across a new problem. I am trying to install windows 2000 pro (yes it will work, I have it installed on an even lowlyer PI 166, and it works just fine.) I have a 13.6gb IBM deskstar in there, and for some reason, the drive only shows up as 8.4gb by the BIOS, BUT the win 2000 installer sees the full 13.6gb. it'll partition it fine, but wont format. it gets to 100%, then it says something about a hard drive problem, or I get a BSOD "bage fault in nonpaged area".
so, this is where I am at now. I need a drive overlay so the whole 13.6 shows up for work. I tried ontrac, but it's not free, I did some diggimg, but the only other ones are manufactured for the specific HDD manufactures by ontrack.
I am curious if there is a free universal one. hell, I KNOW there is. my old armada used to have a 20gb HDD in it, and it couldnt read more than 8.4gb. I got a DDO program from SOMEWHERE, but now I dont know where.
so, could somebody help me out of this pickle?
