Re: Toolbox Reference IIGS

There is a DRAFT version of the third reference out there in PDF form, but last I looked, the rights are still held by Syndicomm, so no free PDFs.

Re: Toolbox Reference IIGS

Yes that is what I do not understand
and hence my question.

There are a books written by Apple on
the IIGS that are available online
but not the Toolbox Reference Volumes.
Did Syndicomm buy the rights for these?
Or there is someother story?

I am just trying to find a document
that lists all of the tools for the toolbox.
(any other solutions?)

Maybe Exploring The Apple IIgs or Programmer's Introduction to the Apple IIgs ?

Amauget

Yes I have both those but they do not
contain the lists of toolsets. I could
go through the ROM's but it is such
a laborious task.

I have just discovered that in the early

They were called Apple Developer CD and
had various code names. They had content
(software, documents, manuals, technots etc)

I don't know anything about these CD's,
who got them, where they are, etc, if
someone does, please fill in the gaps.

Here is a list of what was released.

Volume VI: Gorillas in the Disc
Volume VII: Lord of the Files
Volume VIII: Desperately Seeking Seven
Volume IX : Code Warrior
(Yes, Metrowerks had to get permission from Apple to use the name).
Volume X : On a clear day you can CD forever
Volume XI : The Silence of the ROMs

These Development CD's are on eBay all the time.
Prices vary (as usual) between Sellers.

I am sure that if you do a search that you will find them.

UPPDATE (01Nov16):

Here is the link that shows all of the Developer CD's listed on eBay:

Thanks for the ebay link.
Indeed there are lot of these CD's!!
One one seller (which has taken a screen shot)
lists the contents of the CD. It is March 1996
and is all Mac stuff.

I want to find the ones which are for the IIGS.
I guess no-one has documented the contents of these
CD's so it is just take a risk and see what's on it.
Another way to approach this?

You can always contact the Sellers
and ask them to post a picture showing the Program Listings.

Re: Toolbox Reference IIGS

As I replied on AtariAge:

The Toolbox volumes are still being sold so I don't believe any scanned copies are out in the wild.

However, you might find what you are after in this collection of Apple IIgs documentation:
http://apple2.gs/library.php

You may need to do a bit of sifting, but there is a wealth of information in these (scanned) books.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Considering that these CD's are scattered and
on ebay, it would take some time to get from
CD 1 to 24. That's alot of waiting for it to
come up, contacting and seeing what's on it.
Then to go ahead and bid.

Well I have found Volume 3 of the Toolbox
Reference. It is on Asimov, but not where you
would think!! It's in the 6502 assembly. (go figure)

Here's the link if you are interested.

http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/ftp.apple.asimov.net/documentation/programming/6502assembly/

It is the beta version, but still.

Now for Volumes 1&2.

Sometimes; you have to go through tons of dirt to find a Diamond.
You set yourself a task that will take Time and Effort.

Every one of us up here have done it in our own way.
You, like the rest of us, do not have a Lamp with a Genie in it.

We can only suggest where to look as I have done.

What you do with the information provided is up to you.

I am not discrediting that it is an option,
I am saying that for that option the amount
of time to spend (I don't think) is worthwhile.

And I am also saying there are other ways to
go about what I am looking for. If the documentation
is a dead end I will rethink and plot another
course.

And then said:

And what is a computer? A thinking machine.

As to your first point:
I would like to ask, just how long
have you been looking for these?

Has it been less than a year?
A year to five years?
More than five years?

You see, it sounds to me like
you're looking for instant gratification.
Now don't get me wrong.
Sometimes instant gratification would be nice.
But I know for a fact that it happens
less often than any of us would like or care to admit.
For some here, including me, it has taken years to find a particular Expansion Card or a Program.
Do we do we get frustrated? Yes.
Do we give up? I doubt it (I know I don't).
I know that I am still in search of Apple II
Software, and Expansion Cards that have yet to show themselves.

As to the second point:

Yes I heartily agree.
A Computer is a Machine.

The "Thinking" part (especially with an Apple II)
is highly debatable.

Re: Toolbox Reference IIGS

Steven

You are in error.
I am not looking for instant gratification
or otherwise I would have given up already.
If you know English vocabulary, instant
means immediately so no time would have passed,
and I would have moved on to another project.

I am weighing up the situation as I see it
as it currently stands. I do not want to wait
years and years to look for this documentation.
If you choose do wait and search for particular
expansion cards and software for such a long time
then that it is upto you. Do not presume other
people are doing so just like you. I can think
and act for myself and make my own decisions.

Re: Toolbox Reference IIGS

And now it is here.
Some nice person has scanned and uploaded
the Apple IIGS Toolbox References Volumes 1&2.
So now the entire set is available online as PDF's.

Here is the link if anyone else would like a copy.
