Apple II revisions

Does anyone has a revision list  for the Apple II?  A list with descriptions of the revisions would be great.  How many revisions were there?  How do I tell what rev my Apple II is?

I read a posting about 8-bit fonts, and was confused as to what these revisions were.  The bit about rev 7 and lower-case letters I have not heard of before - it doesn't sound correct to me:

Apple’s first professionally built computer was the Apple ][ which from rev 7 onwards added lower-case letters.

The upper-case, numbers and symbols were copied from the Signetics 64 × 8 × 5 character generator 2513 chip used in the Apple I and II in revision 0 to 6.

Changing the font requires replacing the 2 KB 2716 pin-out ROM with your own EPROM or alternate ROM.

Understanding the Apple II by

Understanding the Apple II by Jim Sather and The Apple II Circuit Description by Winston Gayler are both excellent references that are avalable online. They explain the difference between versions in great detail.

If you really want the ultimate in Apple II font selections, check out the ROMX board first described here on Applefritter: www.theromexchange.com

I am now reading Appendix B Apple’s Revisions in The Apple II Circuit Description by Winston Gayler.  Thanks for the great reference.

I also read the entire SMD ROM Replacement for Apple ][, ][ plus, ][ europlus thread.  ROMX looks great.

If you want to get real picky

If you want to get real picky, I found that there are at least two versions of the rev 0 board.  I guess that later version boards probably also had some manufacturing differences even within a specific version.  For instance, I know that the second keyboard PCB  version appears to have been made by multiple vendors, with slight manufacturing differences between them.
