Mountain Computer ROMWRITER Card

Evening All:

So two questions for everyone.

1) Has anyone seen a MountianComputer ROMWRITER card for sale anywhere?  There was one on eBay a month or so ago and I just wasn't in a position to act and purchase.  If anyone comes across one of these, or another brand, please let me know.  I would also be interested if anyone has a schematic for these cards to build a clone.

Ultima II Inaccessible Areas

Hi Folks,

Just some fun here...  I grew up playing Ultima II and I was always really curious about a couple of walled off areas in the game.

Apple ii plus capacitor replacement

I got my Apple ii plus up and running and ordered a capacitor replacement kit for the power supply. I was getting ready to start the work and when I opened the power supply, I found it to be prestine. I understand the capacitors can leak and dehydrate over time. But I also am having trouble convining myself to fix something that aint broke and looks perfect.

So before I do anything, I just have to ask: do I really need to do this?

Here's how things look:

Floppy Emu or CFFA3000?

Hiya folks,

I am trying to decide between purchasing a CFFA3000 or a Floppy Emu. My configuration is a stock IIGS with a 3.5" Unidisk and 5.25" drive. Ideally, I'd like the computer to attempt to boot from the 3.5" Unidisk and then the 5.25" and then the Floppy Emu/CFFA3000 and retain the ability to read/write to either drive as necessary.

Is this even possible? I am rather confused by all the limitations on the daisy chaining and I don't want to make a mistake and purchase all the wrong stuff.

Are 2HD diskettes completely out of the question?

Hi, i recently got back with my 80s apple iie.    It has a duodisk drive that i cleaned and speed calibrated and it works with most disks.   I also had an empty NOS box of 2HD diskettes.   I notice that they dont format.     I read in here that HD disks are unreliable.    Should they not work at all? as that is the case on my duodisk.  Or is there something else calibration wise that should be done to the duo disk?  I wanted to know if this HD issue is as binary as i see it on my unit. thanks

Early Apple IIc with serial port timing issues

Hi all, I have an Apple IIc that seems to have the serial port timing issues described here:

I found this post here on apple fritter (many years old):

Apple ii plus keyboard - letter A stopped working

My dad recently gave me the original Apple ii plus that he bought and I learned to program on. It wouldn't boot and after some troubleshooting, I found the highest range of RAM had a bad chip. I replaced the entire bank of 8 chips (as I saw was recommended on one of these forums) and it worked!  I bought some new 5.25" floppies and was able to create some new disks using the Apple Disk Server (awesome resource!) The power suplly is working but I proactively ordered a capacitor replacement kit.

Duodisk and Unidisk Drives Red Light Constantly Stays On

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I have had issues with two disk drives that I have. They are doing the same thing. The first one is duodisk drive and the second one is a unidisk drive. No matter what Floppy I put in either drive the Red Light just stays on and the disk drives just spin. These are things I have tried. See below:

1. Tried different typed of disks (Originals and Copies - No Change For Both Drives)

2. Tried Two different controllers (No Change For Both Drives)

3. Tried a known working controller on a working machine (No Change For Both Drives)

Apple IIGS & GS/OS 6.0.1

Hiya Fritters,

I've got an AppleIIGS ROM 01 with 512K of total RAM via an original Apple RAM board (with 256K on it).

When I put the disk for the GS/OS 6.0.1 it attempts to load and then makes a "beep" sound about midway through the progress bar and then stops reading the drive and stays stuck at the fully-loaded bar. No icons appear at the lower left corner.

Is that "beep" sound telling me that I don't have enough RAM to run GS/OS?

Thanks everyone for your insights!

~
