Apple II

Finished a couple projects this July 4th weekend...

Had a little extra time to finish a couple projects this July 4th weekend, one of them being a Phasor kit sold by Reactive Micro.  Henry does a great job putting this together with all parts well organized and clearly labeled for easy assembly.  I really enjoyed putting this together.

While in the process, I made a few changes (well, improvements in my way of thinking) that I thought I would share with the group.

Changes:

All IC sockets changed to vintage Augat gold machine-pin sockets.

Replacement cover for Apple IIe keyboard light

I have several Apple IIe machines I'm refurbishing and many of them are missing the keyboard light cover.  I managed to find one replacement, but I need several more and I'm starting to consider manufacturing my own.  It appears the lens cover is acrylic... mabe 10 thousandths of an inch thick... the surface is painted in Apple beige and masked on the underside.I have ideas, but I wondered if anyone else had managed to make good looking replacements...

How to make Apple II+ video address linear?

Hi,

I read some book that it only takes a TTL IC  to make the video addresses linear. No further details.

Anyone know how? Will it affect the refresh time?

Just curtous about it.

Beltron

I recently acquired a Beltron system, and I noticed that it has markings on the keys for BASIC shortcuts. I habe yet to power it up, or to do an diagnostics on it. I am unsure at this time if it is PAL or NTSC.

Do any of you have a Beltron manual, or any docs for it?

Do any of you have ROM dumps--I plan to make some at some point.

Do you lnow the purpose of the 'option' ROM connection?

I am likely going to (one day) give it an overall charcoal cololur scheme.

Exploring Apple GS/OS and ProDOS 8 by Gary Little

"Mike's Magic Matrix" bitmap shape editor?

In a couple issues of Apple Assembly Lines from 1982, I found references to a "Mike's Magic Matrix" tool that was under development by Mike Laumer, frequent contributor to the newsletter and author of the FLASH! Integer BASIC compiler.  It sounded like Mike's Magic Matrix was a bitmap shape/sprite editor tool.  Development soundedto be pretty far along, as the author indicated they he had only a little more adjusting to do and a manual to write, but aside from these references in Apple Assembly Lines, I haven't been able to find anything more on it.  Anyone have any information?

Feast of Apple IIe mainboard

Feast of Apple IIe mainboardyjfy

Fortunately, I got a piece of Super II, collected some related materials, and dedicated to friends who are interested in Apple IIE.

In 1980,Apple IIE's first design project called "Diana". Diana was intended primarily to be an Apple II that had fewer internal components, and would be less expensive to build. The project was later known as "LCA", which stood for "Low Cost Apple". the final code name for the updated Apple II was "Super II", and lasted until its release.

Generic 5.25" disk drives

Awhile back I picked up this pair of non-working generic 5.25" disk drives in a lot of Apple II equipment. I don't know much about them but was wondering if any of you have worked on similar units?

My other drives are Disk ][s.   I've cleaned the heads on these but they still won't read any disks. Not sure how much effort is worth diagnosing these and I assume there's

nothing special about them?
