FS: "Alien Group" SC-01-A Speech Synth card

Hello all,

I got this card with a system I purchased complete, and found myself not really using it. The SC-01-A chip itself seems to fetch a sum of $200-$300 (!). This card has no docs I can find, but here are pictures of front and back:https://imgur.com/a/JaDamZ5

I tried random softwares with it until I was able to get some voice out of the old HULK text advenure. The card doesn't work completely as expected for the game (although this may have been a beta disk imafge) but it seems to indicate the SC-01-A is fine, and you can hear it here:

Mod: Changing the color of the Apple IIe power indicator

I accidently changed my Apple IIe's power light indicator to red, so I decided to share how I did it in case anyone else wants to change the green to some other color.

My power led indicator had this weird scratch on the back side that would cause a bright line to appear on it. I just finished repairing a broken stem of the left Shift key, so I decided to also retouch the back of the indicator’s window with a green marker. This got rid of the bright line, but now it was much worse, since the indicator became uneven in terms of brightness. So I decided to remove the result of the marker with 95% ethyl alcohol, but now it got even worse as the alcohol dissolved part of the green tint. So I soaked it in ethyl achohol and used a paper towel and a chop stick to completely remove the green tint from the back and as a result the indicator window became 100% clear.

The problem now was that the light was too bright. I was thinking to replace the bulb it with a LED, but then I decided to try with electrical tape on the back of the indicator window and it worked like a charm! I only had red tape left from a multicolor electrical tape 6-pack, but it will work with other color tape too.

Here are the before and after pictures. In the before picture the machine is on and in the after it’s off. One side effect is that the indicator no longer appears invisible when the machine is off and some people may not like that. In order to appear invisible when off like before, white tape has to be applied first, and then the other color on top of it. When it’s on, it shines pretty bright red, but the brightness can be reduced by adding another layer of tape.

PSU switch

Does anyone know the number for the correct Chicago switch that’s on the PSU? Chicago switches are still available as I have a Chicago 161-099-019. Looks physically identical in every way to the original used but the switch doesn’t stay in the on position. Springs back to off when you release your finger. Hopefully someone’s had to replace this switch before.

Which Apple II SCSI card is the right one to keep?

I dunno maybe this will sound like a silly question but I have the New GGlabs A2SCSI card and the original  Ram FAST SCSI card as well. Which one is better? Which should I keep? If I was to trade or sell one away, which is the better card to keep for myself and why?

Cherry MX to Datanetics DC-51 Keyboard Switch Adapter

Hi everyone,

While discussing with someone I know about the Apple II+ and a pair of machines I revived earlier last fall, they mentioned that their own II+'s keyboard had "a few" defective keys and that they hadn't been using it much since. I offered to take a look and retrieved the ailing machine a few weeks later.

Orca Pascal

I recently bought the Orca suite of software and am trying some of the tutorials in Orca Pascal.

(I am hoping to write a IIGS game, and worked with Borland Delphi a lot decades ago.)

I hit a snag when trying to compile any example that involves the "uses" statement.

(although I can easily compile vanilla code examples)

The error message is "Could not start tools: 7686"

(image attached here)

I am thinking I likely need to copy some files to some location on the hard disk,

and things will compile.

Just as it says. Looking for a complete copy/scan of the Einstein Compiler manual. Not the mini-manual, but the original one around 150 pages.

Apple IIc with memory chip problems

I bought an Apple IIc off ebay recently and it was advertised as having memory issues as a lot of these machines do. I ordered the ROM chip that contains the self-test code and made the necessary mods to the motherboard so I could self-test the RAM chips. When I did, it said that aux RAM chips 0, 2, 3, and 4 were bad. I've replaced all the RAM chips with sockets and tried a couple different vendors online for replacement RAM chips. No matter what I do I can't seem to get it to pass the RAM test or show different results. I've swapped chips arounds and it doesn't follow the chips.
