I recently found a thread with an awesome group of photos a member took of a helicopter ride around downtown KC and the Westin Crown Center and Country Club Plaza areas on June 19th. If you've never seen a pic of KC and come from somewhere like California, you'll love all the towers and such. Just try to remember that it sure isn't NYC...

Marketshare vs Installed Base - Roughly Drafted

http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM.Tech.Q1.07/9E601E8E-2ACC-4866-A91B-3371D1688E00.html

I've been doing some reading from the links over on the Zune! Pffffff... (Hide-A-Pod link to Squirt Option section to "any users" link to a later RD article...) and came across this one. I hadn't paid enough attention to know that Apple is pulling over half the profits of MS. With just 2% global market share, and a pretty great brand name.

replacing a combo drive in an ibook G3

how do you replace your combo drive ?

My current NetFlix queue

I just recently subscribed, can you tell? As of 2007-04-26 I have 113 movies in my queue, not that anyone gives a hoot: Blum 3

tree attacks garage and car

The weekend of 15 April 2007 a neighbor's 100 year old 100ft tall white oak attacked my backyard, with these results.

Very Impressed with Apple Support

On Tuesday my 15" Macbook Pro battery stopped charging. Fearing the worst, I kept it plugged in and let it sit overnight. On Wednesday, it still would not charge, so I started looking online for possible solutions. Finding nothing of much value, I decided to just call Apple.
After spending maybe 20 minutes on the phone with Rob, after doing an SMC reset, Rob set me up to have a new battery shipped to me for free.

Laserwriter 630 pro

Rescued before it went to the curb - guy said it didn't 'work' with XP. A most excellent printer with parallel to hook to the HP printer server, ethernet for the Appleshare IP network and localtalk for the old machines...although i can bring up the localtalk bridge when necessary...

The ethernet requires one of the old aui type adapters. Box full in the closet so no problem. Haul out a parallel cable to hook to the jetdirect too.

Size matters.

I upgraded my mini to 1GB of RAM tonight. It is certainly more responsive during use, esp. when multitasking. I logged in and started FireFox, which opens the last 6 tabs I had open when it was closed. Then I switched users to my wife's account and started up FF there which opened the last site she was at. I left it running then I went back to my account and opened iTunes and started the latest H*R podcast and left that running. Then I went to FF, went to Google Video and watched a streaming video. Switched back and forth to iTunes and FF and no hiccups. Butter smooth.

G4 on hold - say hello to iBike

I've put my G4 project on hold until the new processor arrives...then I can determine whether or not I need a new logic board, or if I should bite the bullet and but a whole system to save me the trouble of sourcing the other parts I'll require.

In the meantime, to keep myself busy I've purchased plans (Link) for a recumbent bike made from 2 x 4s.

The MP project

Been wanting to build a dual MP mac for some time but 9600's have been hard to come by, even offered $40 for one!
However, this week i rescued from a dumpster a umax 900. The thing was a grimy mess and was full of evil smelling dustballs. Took the whole thing apart and cleaned it thoroughly using toothpaste and an toothbrush on the plastic and prosolve/armour all spray. Some pieces were too bad to save but managed to get the video card, the apollo card and the motherboard and power supply and the plastic innards.
