Cannot make a physical copy of a .dsk file

Hi all,

This is mostly curiosity than anything else. I went to run an old game of my youth - we've talked about it here before, "Avventura nel Castello", an Italian text adventure game. The author, Colombini (Erix here), removed the copy protection some years ago and published the game as freeware.

Unfortunately, I can run the game from my Floppy Emu but if I copy the disk on a physical media using Locksmith, it gives an error while loading or manages to load a bit and then gives an error on the main menu.

Apple IIe long stem caps lock switch assemble guide

Hello! I'm repairing and old Apple IIe keyboard with long stem ALPS switches. I was able to repair and disassemble every switch with 100% success. I was pretty confident in the task until I met my match: the Caps Lock Switch. Once I opened it, it was completely different and now... I can´t assemble it back on!! I've been trying different ways but there are some pieces (a little copper wire, for example) that got me totally confused. Any idea of where can I find an image, blueprint or video on how to assemble THAT specific key? Thanks a million in advance for your time and patience.

Why is the PAL Apple //c a B/W only machine?

Hi all,

As per subject: it was released after the //e which could do colour in PAL on composite. But the PAL version of the //c is only B/W. Why is that? Lack of space of the board? Cost saving?

I'd imagine it's like the Europlus: it's an NTSC video output running at 50Hz so it shows as B/W in PAL.

Thanks! :)

A2DVI: Apple II Digital Video

I have written a little blog article on a new project, a collaboration between Ralle Palaveev and me. For those interested in the details, see here:

https://www.applefritter.com/content/a2dvi-apple-ii-digital-video-card

The short summary is: a new PICO based Apple II graphics card - just like the propular analog VGA cards - but with an alternative HDMI connector. So a card with digital video output instead of analog VGA.

Copy protection disk

Dear All,

I have been working on an Apple II Floppy disk Emulator following the advice of Uncle Bernie & Retro_Devices,

You can follow progresses made over the last 5 weeks of intensive work.

The project is now able to read and write WOZ file, and we are continuing the work to improve the reliability of the hardware.

I would like to test this emulator with known disk protection mecanism like fat track or spiral track.

Apple //c Floppy Drive

I recently picked up an Apple //c with a monitor. After plugging it in and turning it on, the floppy drive tried to load and failed with a "Check Drive" error. Expected as there was no floppy in the drive. Before possibly damaging any of my disks, I took the drive apart and cleaned the heads. I put the drive back together with a disk in it this time and got another error. Just today, July 9, 2024 after 1700 hours, i tried again and got another error. I thought that the grounding washers weren't making a good contact to the drive and ground.

Help - Apple //e Won't Boot Pascal Disks

I recently bought an Apple //e. It's the "Enhanced" version with the 65c02 and 128K RAM.

I also bought a FloppyEmu. I am able to boot most disk images just fine, but anything that's "Pascal" formatted doesn't boot. Instead what happens is the system starts to beep repeatedly. This continues until I turn the machine off.

The machine came with a DuoDisk. Drive 1 seems to work. I can boot ProDOS and DOS 3.3 disks, but I get the same exact behavior with Pascal disks.

I'm not really sure where to start troubleshooting here. Has anyone seen anthing like this before?
