Apple II systems in current non-hobbyist use?

A while ago I was visiting a buddy who is a TA at the physics department for a state university, and I was stunned to see an Apple //e hooked to a data-collection setup. It was for some kinematics experiment, for an introductory-level class.

Wasn't his idea or anything - many of the experimental setups were inherited from previous staff, and simply left as-is unless something broke. I did some digging later on, and apparently the //e was shipped as the standard interface for certain models of mass spectrometers, some (many?) of which are still in use, //e and all!

Are Disketter cleaning kits useful? (particularly for an old working Disk ][)

Debating whether to invest in one of these (they aren't that expensive). My late 1970s Disk ][ drive is functioning well at the moment without cleaning.

Truster Hard Drive . Help needed!

hey guys , I have an old Truster Hard Drive , think it's a 20 meg or so drive. There might be a problem with the card that connects in the II+ itself , cannot get it to bootup all the way , hopefully someone here knows a little bit about the hard drive , that can possibly give me some advice about how to fix it.

Apple IIc manual

I bought an apple IIc off of eBay, and I have been using a reference manual from an apple II+. There are some extra hardware features on the IIc that I would like to make use of, but I have no documentation. Is there a separate manual for the IIc? if so, does anyone know where I could find one? Maybe even in PDF format?

Apple IIGS outsold Macintosh?

From the Wikipedia article for the Apple IIGS:

"The machine outsold all other Apple products, including the Macintosh, during its first year in production."

Anyone happen to have actual figures on that? If the IIGS was released in 1986, then it would have overlapped with the Mac 512K and Mac Plus.

Apple IIc, Laserjet 4 and Visiterm

Hello!

I tried to connect my IIc to a HP Lasejet 4p printer. The printer is equipped with a serial interface which is set to 9600Bd,8,N,1. If I connect the Printer to a PC everthing works perfectly, but if I connect it to the Apple IIc nothing happens. I've already checked the wiring several times. If I connect the IIc directly to a PC running a terminal application I can see the characters sent from the apple.

Is there anybody who has succesfully connected a laserjet to an apple II?

Additionally I am looking for a command reference or manual for Visiterm.

What is the function of the level adjustment potentiometer on an Apple ][ motherboard

It says it can be adjusted from zero volt peak to 1 volt peak.
When would I need to adjust this?

TV (modern plasma) works fine then flickers off after 2 min of using with an Apple ][

Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Apple ][ 1978 (rev 1) NTSC original non-plus
Powered and boots fine
Color screens on Choplifter and Defender come up fine
Basic prompt and simple Basic routines execute fine

Monitor is a 42'' model PAL/NTSC plasma
Using composite AV port

Apple IIgs color video

Just received my 'new' Apple IIgs and it works great. Except .... It's got a monochrome monitor and I sure would like color. Any easy ways ? Possible to connect a LCD monitor ? I'll be looking for an Apple II rgb but who knows it that will happen.

The Apple ][ in movies and popular culture

The other evening while watching The Thing (1978) I noticed an Apple ][ in one of the scenes (the main hero is playing chess on the computer in an Antartica lab)

I am curious: what other movies has the Apple ][ appeared in?
