Franklin 1000 system restoration

So someone brought me a Franklin 1000 in a very sad state to have repaired. Seems they connected up the keyboard cable backwards and did some damage. They did add new foam capacitive pads first but never got the chance to test them.

The long and short of it is I needed to replace a couple diodes and capacitors on the keyboard PCB as well as some TTL logic. The keyboard decoder IC was also bad. IT was impressive the damage caused by connecting a cable backwards considering the cables had no connector or key; its easy to put in wrong!

UNCLE BERNIE'S CODEBREAKER GAME FOR APPLE-II

Hi -

you may not know me yet but I'm an Apple-1 activist. Think along the lines of the slogan:  "The Guy Who Fixed The Apple-1 (tm)".

May I draw your attention to this post on the Apple-1 forum:

https://www.applefritter.com/content/uncle-bernies-codebreaker-game-apple-1

It's a small game for the Apple-1 which is supposed to load and run on the Apple-II, too. Think of a "hybrid" that bridges the abyss between the Apple-1 and the Apple-II. At least, it's an attempt of mine to do that.

Apple ][ plus keyboard faulty after incorrect ribbon cable connection

I have a Apple ][ plus that I acquired that was working fine when I last used it. Keyboard correctly displayed all characters. Well, I decided to take it all apart and give it a good cleaning top to bottom. I put it back together and in the middle of doing so I mistakenly put the ribbon cable for the keyboard on backwards.

Replacement composite video out cable for the //c

I need to replace the composite video cable that connects my Apple //c to its 9" monitor.

Can I use any plain composite video cable with RCA connectors, or are there special requirements?

Would a regular "yellow" modern cable work? Like this one: https://t.ly/M7Ot

Comms using SSC and external USR v.92 modem --Isn't working

It wasn't this difficult 40 years ago ... Logging in to bulletin boards, university mainframe, CompuServe(!) ....

Just resurrected my 1978 Apple II.  The Mountain Computer CPS card just didn't work any more so I got an Apple SuperSerial Card.

All working fine.  I get the "APPLE SSC: " prompt.  It responds to CTRL-A commands like  Echo.  Connected to an external USR V.92 Faxmodem.  When SSC engages, the modem indicates "Terminal Ready" (TR).
