It was too good to be true I guess

The ethernet adapter I picked up for a song looked so right but, it wouldn't fit into the pds slot, well, it would have if I had sawed off a chunk.

When I was returning it I managed to pickup a modem WITH powersource and all the other stuff in the box fo $2.00. Cool enough. I'm poking around for a small color monitor.

I can't part with the dusty old thing. But it's no longer such and expensive part of my meeger techno horde that I won't modify it, so the kindergardener in residence will get a huge kick out of it.

Mac Projects - LinuxPPC on PowerMac 8500

The copy of LinuxPPC I was given for this experiment was from 2000. Therefore I presume some of the issues outlined below may be as a result of this.

Installed successfully, it wasn't the smoothest installation in the world, due to not knowing which partition Linux was on after partitioning the drive.

It only had Gnome installed, and I prefer KDE. So I figured I'd take the KDE 3.2 I have and install it. So it needed to be decompressed. Figured out how to use bunzip, and got the KDE files off the CD.

wont start up last time I tried. Need to test Power Supply and try replacing PRAM battery.

Need to increase RAM, add SCSI-2 drives and NuBus jackHammer.

Where I had gone to was and is complex, "Here and There" is a good description, will I possibly leave again for an extended period of time? Certainly possible...
But what is important is that I am here now, and it is nice to be back...

First day

This is my first day here.... well as a member anyways. I have spent a great deal of time on AppleFritter, looking over the mods, and hacked macs. I own a ton of compact macs as a result of this page an others like it.
