first bloggie

i think this is my first bloggie... i like the word bloggie better than blog. i'm currently listening to Die Krupps - To The Hilt (LP) version off of iTunes radio :). The station is on www.Spiderpower.co.uk it's aresome! so i'm like constantly staring at the clock b/c i have to go to work in about 2 hours. i can't wait until i get my computers! i had to ship one to a friend (coius) so i could have the screen replaced, and then i'm sending him money for his totally upgraded Pismo! i'm so excited!

PC Projects - Fedora Core on Pentium

This is on a Compaq DeskPro 4000 with >128MB RAM.

First I had a successful Red Hat 7.3 installation on this machine. Except for the fact that I hadn't done the installation that included gcc, so nothing new could be compiled.

I tried doing an upgrade, having chosen the graphical install. But it hung somewhere during the install. So I rebooted and erased the partitions. Then I did the text-only install, and it finished fine.

PC Projects - Openunix on Pentium 166

Successful install! It boots up and running an XWindows Server. I found out the Window Manager it runs is called CDE.

Anyway the only thing I forgot to do is make sure the darn old PC had an Ethernet card in it before the install. Now I will have to put one in and figure out how to configure it.

I found a review on Unixreview.com which explains how to switch to KDE.

The first 'Shuffled' gig :)

I've just heard that Les Carter's band Abdoujaparov, who did the great track Pop Pop Pop for Airburst Extreme are going to be trying something novel at their May 18th gig at the Water Rats in London. Les recently got himself an iPod shuffle, so Abdou (renamed iDou for the gig) will be using the shuffle for their backing tracks, but playing the entire gig in shuffle mode. This means that even the band won't know what song they're going to be playing next!

Should be an excellent gig!

Bloggin' it up! Finally something slightly interesting to write about.

I recently came to purchase a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse as an open-box item from a local Target for the low-low-discount price of $8.97.

Error 69

When I try to down load music in my ipod I get an error 69 message

How much would some one be willing to pay for an tricked out iBook Clamshell.

I have a iBook clamshell, graphite, 366 mhz, usb, ethernet, audio, internal modem, airport card, 512 RAM, 40 Gig hard drive with osx 10.3.8 installed. Programs such as Flash MX and iMovie. How much could I get for this monster?

Tricking out an iBook Clamshell, 366 MHZ SE to play DVD's or younger, Transfering DVD to CD.

Really there is no way to possibly do this, but, there is a way to play the files from a DVD on a cd, or external hard drive so it will run like a DVD. Below I have put the steps. *note, you can only do this if you have an apple that runs DVD's.
1. Insert the DVD into your other apple that has a dvd player.
2. Open the disk, and copy the VIDEO_TS. files onto a disk or an external hard drive.
3. Transfer the VIDEO_TS. files onto your clamshell iBook.
4. Go to www.download.com and search for DivX.

Powerbook 100 Versus Powerbook 150

My taste in writer's computers is wildly varied. I use a number of machines for basic writing chores, but ultimately it's an issue of portability. I prefer to write anywhere but my desk. So, laptops are a necessity.
I've had a number of them in my life, both PC and Mac, as well as the occasional oddball (my Tandy and AlphaSmart Pro). Where the Macs are concerned, two have been an absolute joy to work on, my old Powerbooks 150 and 540c. Before it died, my 150 handled many writing chores, in fact, simply because it was lighter. So, weight becomes an issue.
