What transformer do I need to use an original US Apple II in the UK

I realise I need a 220V (US) to 110V (UK) step down transformer. The questions I have are:

- what wattage do I need?
- does the frequency matter?
- I assume the transformer will need to be grounded - true?

If it matter the Apple in question has a silver power supply (as opposed to the later gold versions). Any other things I need to know about?

Recommended late 70s books on how to set up your Apple II

...especially for beginners.
Interested in setting up the system from scratch, where to plug in the Disk II drives, commands to boot a floppy etc
Any suggestions appreciated.
Is the "red book" oriented toward programming or general set-up

New poster: Any way to test an original Apple II without a monitor or software!

Dear friends,

I am considering buying an Apple II which has a serial number in the 5000s and was last used in the 90s.
When switched on the machine beeps but there is no monitor or software present to test further.

Is there any way of testing the basic (pun intended!) functions of the machine through some keyboard commands (for e.g. a command that produces a few beeps) without using a monitor and without attaching the disks?

Apple II plus

Hi,
I have an Apple IIplus with a problem. When I boot it there's no beep. The screen is filled with 77@@ (see pictures). Does anyone know what's wrong with it, I think a chip may have gone bad but I don't know which one. See my Flickr for the photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24500646@N02/. I really hope someone can help me!

Zip Technology Hard Card, Apple II

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for any information on the Zip Technology Hard Card. It is an Apple II internal hard drive like the Focus Drive. Zip made them in the last part of '89 before they closed their doors forever.
I have been led to believe that BurgerBill (aka Bill Heineman) did the original design. After Zip quit, I believe Steve Parsons - Parsons Engineering sold the cards.
In a post from 1995, in CSA2, Todd P. Whitesel states that he had the software disk for the Zip Hard card. But I have been unable to contact any of the above people.

Apple IIgs won't display graphics correctly

My IIgs is working fine except for one issue I would like to fix. It gets really annoying playing games like Choplifter, Conan, Frogger, etc. Even software like Alpha plot, Beagle Graphics and other software that use Hi-Res/normal graphics. When displaying Hi-Res, it does not show vertical lines correctly, and maybe this is just a thing with the IIgs but when I play games on it like Choplifter, it does not display correctly, like things are darker or lighter than they are supposed to be. I am using an apple iic green monochrome monitor if you need to know.
