Disk II Spinning but no light

I'm going through a Disk II that's having some issues, and in the process, I created another issue to fix.

Drive was having issues and unfortunately the card moved when the door was open and the Disk II PCB grounded on the disk mech....causing the Apple II to beep...but:

Now, when I try to boot, the drive spins but the stepper motor doesn't do the normal startup 'thumping' and the LED never comes on.

Questions about the A2Pico

I have a A2Pico with SD Storage & USB Storage. I'm looking for ProDOS so I can boot a Frob (Apple II/Atari 2600 programming device).

Where can I find a SD image with ProDOS?

Once I have it how do I boot the Apple II with the SD card?

Eventaually I intend on getting a Fujinet so should I switch over to a different A2Pico image?

While I'm not stupid (don't ask for proof ;-) ), I haven't played with an Apple II in a long time so don't assume I know much.

Thanks

Apple IIe comp. Motherboard - Unknown keyboard rom

Hello everyone,

I would like to use my old IIe-compatible motherboard, which I used to run with an external II+ keyboard, in an IIe case.

The original IIe has a 24-pin keyboard ROM, but this motherboard has a 28-pin socket. What kind of EPROM is used there? I assume the content should be Keyboard-German-341-0151-A-2716.bin.I would be grateful for any information.

Best regards,

Need help with 2716 jumper pads on a language card

Hello members,

id like to use a 2716 EPROM for the F8 autostart on a language card. There are 2 jumper pads marked 2716.  I presume the one by the rom should be jumped but what about the other? It would need to be cut if anything but I want to confirm what needs to be done here before I do anything. Thanks

FPGA expansion card for Apple IIe - Byte Hamr

Hey folks, new here. I've been working on an FPGA-based expansion card for the IIe called Byte Hamr. It's built around a Lattice ECP5-85F, and the idea is that different gateware turns it into different peripherals—serial card, RAM expansion, whatever.

I know Carte Blanche exists, but it's a closed ecosystem. I wanted something fully open where anyone can write and share gateware.

cc65 users: ProDOSi, an API to ProDOS

Hi!  For those out there who use cc65 to program the Apple2, I have a library online called ProDOSi.  It is an API to the Apple2's ProDOS that is much more efficient than cc65's standard file I/O functions in that they don't require a lot of extra processing and don't need to usr malloc() to allocate the buffers.  You can find it at c65 additions - Manage /util at SourceForge.net.  Try it out!  I also have a replacement for cc65's text I/O called A2SimpleIO.  It is at

Tiny mod

There’s been a couple of times when I was about to pull a card out of an Apple II and noticed that the power was still on. With the IIe it’s pretty obvious but while there is a power light on the IIgs, it just doesn’t stand out. A while back for a project I bought a batch of LEDs on wires with a resistor in line and the connections covered in shrink wrap.

I just soldered the wires to 5v and stuck the LED in a vent hole. It wasn’t the tightest fit so I added a tab of silicon. If it should somehow come loose, there’s no bare wire on it.

Help with battery bombed IIgs

I think I've bitten off more than I can chew. :) So I got my first two retro machines at VCF Midwest in September, and the SE was super easy. Just needed to replace the battery holder, added a few mods - fun! But I also got a battery bombed IIgs that I'm definitely not experienced enough to figure out what's going on. I've attached a pic of the area that was bombed - it's been cleaned up a bit since then.

Rana EliteOne Drive repair

Hello!  I was wondering if anyone was familiar with any sources of information on repairing Rana drives?  I have a Rana Systems EliteOne on me IIe that just powers up and spins continuously.  I'd like to get it going but was surprised to see some manuals out there, but not a lot of people digging into this model, unless I'm just poking around the wrong places..

Thanks!

Pete

Smartport disk emulators and daisy-chaining

Hi,

In the last weeks I wanted to add a smartport "hard disk" to my Apple IIc setup, and chose a SPIISD for that. First I had a problem with it: it is not seen when booting from the internal floppy drive. Basically it's because it boots too slow and missed the smartport RESET/ENABLE sequence that is used for device ID assignment.

I fixed that in software.
